I know they're not great pics- ranch manager thought it might be a bezor type ibex. What I do know is that he is LONG !!

Looks Nubian to me

Re: What type of ibex is this? - 01/15/16 08:06 PM
I'm pretty sure he's not nubian. Reason I don't think he is bezoar either is bc he is missing the shoulder ribbon, not even a hint of it although he does have black markings on underside and rear.

Great looking goat and the sheep look pretty good as well. There are several regular posters on the THF that raise Ibex and I am sure they will give you a good answer. Really nice horns.

Awesome looking goat! But definitely not a nubian or any other pure ibex

Re: What type of ibex is this? - 01/15/16 10:26 PM
I'm not sure what it is but I doubt it's pure anything. Probably came from multiple crossbreedings. It's a mutt. Shoot one and have a DNA test run

A Nubian in the front. The Bezoar Ibex have a stripe on the shoulder like the other Ibex except darker. Also has more pronounced knot on horns every 6 inches or so. The one in the post is a cross somewhere down the line. Looks like a very large animal with some good horns.

He is a hybrid. I am guessing with his size and color that he probably is crossed with Nubian ibex and Alpine dairy goat. Nice billy.

Good looking ibex, but pretty much more for a hybrid than a pure Nubian.....

LOL...13K for a mutt????
I can get a full nubian for 10 all day long.
No offense to the rancher...but way too high on that. Hybrids usually bring in around 2 at the most.

I would seriously doubt that you could get a full blood Nubian with horns that long for 10K.

If you got a probably 40 inch pure Nubian for 10 K you got a heck of a deal. I would like to see pictures if you would.

Most 40 inch pure Nubians I have seen sell have been $20,000 or more.

I'm not great at math but my guess is they would bring a lot !!!!

Re: What type of ibex is this? - 02/05/16 01:15 PM
The lower one about $15,000 if I was to guess. The upper one not as much because of the shape of his horns. If they were Nubians with horns that long over $20,000

Re: What type of ibex is this? - 02/05/16 02:23 PM
agreed the top one's horns appear to show some cross in him- although he is very big ! You could probably get 4-5K for him. I shot one that appears very similar but slightly shorter horns for $2,200 several years back.
bottom one is a best !!
Where are these? W TX ? NM?

Dustin, you know where some of those ibex you posted are available? Any for sale or were they pics from the Florida Mts. in New Mexico?

The lower one is from New Mexico. I have seen the picture before.

Re: What type of ibex is this? - 02/05/16 08:17 PM
They are not hybrids. I think they are from New Mexico. Bezoar or what we commonly call them "Persian Ibex" can have a slight flare to the horn shape. Those ibex are usually extremely high if you can find them.

Re: What type of ibex is this? - 02/05/16 08:30 PM
You could buy a hunt in Turkey and shoot one any size you want for well under $20k including the airfare. No worries on pedigree either.

Both of those were in New Mexico. We ended up killing the top one. My buddy drew the once in lifetime rifle tag. We spotted the bottom on about 30 minutes on opening day at about 700. He ended up coming within 30 yards of us. Ibex are amazing animals.

Thanks, I was thinking in the mid 40's. Probably at least 10 years old. Amazing they make it to that age out there.

these are certainly pure Persians. IF, and that's a huge if, there were any on ranches here in Texas I have no doubt they'd bring more than Nubians.

Coming from the man who breeds them I'm sure that's more of a "hope" they would bring that much instead of a "guarantee!"
