Whiterock Trophy Ranch - Italy, TX

Whiterock Trophy Ranch - Italy, TX - 10/11/14 03:19 PM

I just wanted to let you guys know that I found a ranch (just hunted it Friday, as a matter of fact) that is sort of unusual for a ram hunt.
Most hunts are "livestock" that are released periodically or before a scheduled hunt (put and take) but after weeks of researching nearly every ranch in Texas, I found a place that is out of the norm.
The Whiterock Trophy Ranch was built 3 years ago and a heard of rams was put together. These rams have only been hunted half a dozen times since then so they are not your average rams. I would consider them native to the property at this point. After a 5 hour spot and stalk, I finally got one!
As of Friday there were 2 black Hawaiians that were just spectacular and some very large Dalls and corsican as well as one nice Painted Desert.
My guide Jeff is a fine Christian man as is the owner Mike.
A true family run operation.

Throughout the day several chocolate fallow, blackbuck, and whitetail were seen as well.
The 1 hr drive to the ranch was nice. My current hunting spots are in Nacogdoches/Nachitoches and Cherokee, TX so being close to DFW was a huge draw for me to choose this location. With prices equal to, if not cheaper than most ranches in the hill country so I saved money on both ends.

I hope it didn't cost more than $1.85/lb. That thing doesn't look to be even a year old.

The hunt was $200 plus a $50 guide fee which I thought was very reasonable.
The guide/owner gutted, skinned and quartered then got him in the walk-in cooler to cool while we ran into town for lunch with no additional charges for those services.
Not sure how much the ram weighed or its age. Neither were factors in my decision making process.

This fat boy was plum wore out. It was 73 deg when we started walking and 93 deg when we loaded up to go eat. I felt all 20 degrees! Ain't walked that much in a long time. Sure was glad to see that Polaris roll up.
This was no "drive up and shoot" affair although now I see why some choose that style of hunt...my feet hurt!

Classic Rocks- thanks for allowing me the honor and pleasure of wearing you out to get your ram. LOL! I had a great time as your guide and I look forward to hunting with you in the future. I think a lot of folks on here have hit the nail on the head. It is the experience of the hunt that counts. For each person that looks different. White Rock Trophy Ranch and me personally, aim to understand each hunters' needs; so that they achieve the experience expected within their budgetary limits. Thank you again for your business.

Classic Rock,
Hunting is suppose to be fun..looks like you had fun. Congrats.

Jeff,
Some good looking animals....not sure if it's the camera angle or what, but the ram in the back of the utility vehicle looks really big bodied...and the whitetail is pretty impressive as well.

Yes Tony, that corsican in the UTV pic is a monster.
I assume it was one of the original animals populated on the ranch a few years ago.
The owner let a few personal friends/family/business associates hunt the ranch before it was opened to the public.

Luckily I was able to hunt this native heard and a few trophy Merino s have been added to those 2 Black Hawaiians I saw.
Nov 1 there is a Big group of ram hunters booked so if you want a shot at these great trophies, this weekend is available.

Yes, I would have to say that there are some real quality animals on this place. In my humble opinion, its a great place. The animals are awesome, the lodge is very comfortable, the hunting is great. The most impressive thing about the whole deal are the owners. The Bowles are top notch people, whom care about others. Its not just a business to them. Its their dream to have a place like this and they are fully aware of how blessed they are and they understand they can be a part of a life long memory or memories of all their clients. I know this is a cliché, but it really is a family out their and once you are there you feel like you are a part of it. Their aim is to provide the best hunting experience for the price that is possible. I truly believe they are achieving this and that is why I feel so lucky to be a part of it.

I have known Michael Bowles for several years and sold him construction products, retired and went to work for him in the construction industry and you will not find anyone as fair and as customer oriented than Mike or Tracey Bowles or anyone in their family for that matter . They will treat you with respect and ensure you have a great time and thoroughly enjoy your hunt and stay at the lodge. Now he might let me come down and kill a squirrel. LOl
