Maybe I should not say this but if the tips of his horns are the widest part he is not a Mouflon.

Re: Monster mouflon - 11/24/10 12:20 AM

I have never seen a mouflan whose horns didnt make a basic heart shape, tips down and even. Other that that tip spread, he shows mostly mouflan and a really good sheep period.

Regardless of how pure it is...Is this live sale? or 1500 to hunt?

Re: Monster mouflon - 11/24/10 12:31 AM

hes not a 100 percent pure cuz his horns do flair out some but he is mostly pure and markings are the same as a mouflon...$1500 hunt

Re: Monster mouflon - 11/24/10 04:35 AM

No need to knock this ram at all. I dont care if its corsican/mouflon/painted desert/dahl cross. for 1500 bucks you will not find a animal as unique as this. We run a lot of ram hunts and very seldom do you come across one sportin horns like this big boy. Would love to have this guy on our property. And for those who are so concerned with a pure mouflon...good luck finding a PURE mouflon for 1500.

I don't believe anyone was "knocking" this ram. It is a beautiful sheep. But if someone took it and tried to enter it as a Mouflon in the record book they would be out of luck.

Looks to me like a mid-sized Stumberg Ram (Mouflon/Argali cross) - definately 'mostly' mouflon in that herd, but has some crossing going on - Winter coat lacking a saddle patch on many of those is a dead give-away. Also, look at the ram on the far left - he turns out as well.

Just FYI pure mouflon CAN turn out (actually most of the biggest ones do, otherwise they broom), but it's generally after they reach their jaw on the turn back up. When they flare at the bottom of the curl it's a giveaway of a cross.

Good looking rams regardless, and fair price.

Re: Monster mouflon - 11/24/10 02:50 PM

The more I look at the group of rams, I think those are 3/4 mouflons - as you say, there's no ewes, but wherever he's getting his stock is not pure. As mentioned before, not knocking them or the price, just stating what I see in the pic.

Definitely not a pure Mouflon.....but still one HELL of a sheep!! If I had $1500 handy right now, I'd snatch that rascal up in a heartbeat.

Guys I wasn't trying to knock the ram. It is a beautiful animal. I just get a little tired of folks not calling a spade a spade. I got hosed by Thompson Temple on a situation just like this last year. My animal was still a trophy and a beautiful animal. I would just rather have honesty about exactly what the animal is.

Re: Monster mouflon - 11/28/10 06:23 AM

If you were to be truly interested for the hunt and contacted Mr. David, he would have informed you very honestly of the breed of this ram. He wouldn't try to sell it off as a pure mouflon. However, he does have pure mouflon on the property as well. I saw this mega ram this weekend; wish I had the money so my husband could have nailed him! Will make a beautiful full body mount!
