Hog meat question

Hog meat question - 01/19/10 01:28 PM

Ok, a hog was shot this weekend, a big boy, 230lbs. While cleaning we discovered pockets of what appeared to be blackish runny stuff. Needless to say, it was kinda nasty to see.

It looks like parts of the meat was rotted

What the heck was it? and no, I do not have pics

popcorn

yes sir, thats what we were thinking. we discovered this when we started skinning. Its not on the surface, but actually in the meat itself in a couple locations. Definatly turned my stomack

healed wound which is infected. Your probably helped him out by taking him out fast. He may have had a much slower death probably at the teeth of Coyotes eventually.

I am thining previous wounds. Pellets can travel a long way in muscle fibers...

A few years ago two buddies on our deer lease were turkey hunting together (and who knows what else they were doing). But they were calling and filming.... BIG black hog sneaks up to them, camera jostling around, screaming cussing, wish I had a copy... several shotgun blasts, and the hog leaves... one has to pee and one pukes...

Laughed our arses off.

About two years later I kill a huge black sow. Quartered her and iced her. When butchering back home, in one shoulder I found pellets all through the muscle fibers... had to take her apart muscle by muscle... still found a bb or two in sausage...

I didn't see any bb in there, and I should have taken a picture, but after cleaning a couple deer and that brute, wasn't thinking about pics.

We'll pop another one, smaller for eating for sure.
