Purchased one about a month ago. Work just fine when it was warmer. Seems to have trouble with cold weather. I have a call and email into Laser Genetics now. Great when it works. I generally use a 100 amp spot light, but have found that the ND3 will pickup eyes that a spot light will not, even at pretty close distance. Also, I have found the best way to view is to look through your binoculars first while scanning the horizon. I do this two ways: 1) I have a tactical sling on my R15 and just swing it from side to side while viewing through my binoculars, 2) I set my R15 on my biopod while standing and scan the horizon. It is very interesting that looking at the laser with your binoculars makes the laser field of view much larger that with the naked eye. All in all, very pleased. But do have this issue with cold weather. To be specific, I go out side and the laser works fine for a few minutes, then it starts to fade on me. Bring it back in the house for a while and then back out and it works fine for a while. Not the batteries, as I have changed them out several times and tested them. I even pickup what must me mice or rats??? But there is a spider in Texas that reflects spotlights, etc, so it might be that.

Its kinds creepy when you spot out and see 30 or so little pairs of eyes looking back at you.... Kinda makes you wonder what you are walking through sometimes.

I talked to the man I bought it from this after noon and he said another person had brought it back because it was eating up batteries. It does seem like that is what is happening but it is not. The batteries were fine. I emailed Lasergenetics yesterday and called them this morning. No word from anyone yet. I hope they can get this resolved as it really is a neat deal. The man who sold it too me showed me the new one that goes out to 500 yards. It would be idea for hunting with a buddy. You could really light up the country side with it. It also has a slide mechanism to make the laser diameter larger/smaller which is much easier that the model I purchased. I mainly hunt by myself,even at night, but if I hunted with someone most of the time I would definitely consider that one over the ND3 scope mount.

Talked with the Lasergenetics people this morning. He said that the lasers do have a problem with cold weather. Said that had talked with FoxPro hunting team yesterday and they were putting hand warmers around them or some type of glove to take the chill off. I will give it a try. BSA is in Florida, so I guess R&D did not consider cold weather. If this hand warmer deal works, it will still be worth the effort. Stay tuned...

Went out tonight and tried a small hand warmer. It seemed to work for a while but then faded on me. The handwarmer was cold when I got back to the house. 29 degrees outside tonight. The ND3 did not pass the test tonight. Maybe be too cold and mayber I need a bigger hand warmer. Would like to hear how other folks are dealing with this unit.

Latest in R&D. Went out last night. Prior to going out, I wrapped an ace bandage around my ND3. I was out for about 45 minutes. It was 42 degrees. Worked just fine. Next time I plan on wrapping a hand warm inside of the ace bandage(when it is colder). I have contacted Lasergenetics and ask them to provide/create/etc a sleve or wrap for the unit. So for now, I am very pleased with the unit even with this extra hassle. The ND5 would probably be a better choice for some one hunting with others. Goes out 500 yards or so. Not a scope mount as I understand.

I have continued to use the ND3 in cold weather. With all the snow we had, I went out with it wrapped with a handwarmer inside. It was in the upper twenties. Did not last long. I have removed it from my rifle and plan on using it just as spotlight in the colder months. I keep it in my hand or in a holder inside my coat to keep it warm. Last night it was about 26 degrees and it worked fine using it this way. I may experiment with putting some velcro on the bottom scope mount and on the ND3. So, if I spot something coming in using it as spotlight, I could quickly set it on top of my rifle to use to site it in though my scope. It would probably have to be some pretty strong velcro or it might fly off the scope - hit the ground and I am done. More R&D needed. I did read on another forum that Lasergenetics is developing a sleve to help with this problem. The post I read, I think on PM, said that he had talked with Lasergenetics people and they just didn't think about the cold weather. There is apparently the same issue with hot weather.

Get the bugs worked out and drop the price a little, and they'd sell a crap load of these things! With the complaints about NV unless you go to Gen. 3, these things would sell great.

so how clear is it while you look threw the scope?looks like a toy if it works

I have taken my ND3 off my scope and am using it as a spotlight only in cold weather. Holding it in my hand with a heavy glove keeps it warm and working. Looking through my binoculars and moving the setting to the smallest laser (looks like a regular laser), at 200 yards or more you can see very clear. I went out tonight after it quit snowing and looked around. Spotted some small deer and kept the light one them for a while to experiment. It did not seem to bother them. I don't deer hunt, but wanted to see their reaction. I move the laser up and down, almost like the bouncing ball deal. I can cover a lot of ground this way. Much faster than when I had it mounted on my scope. I watched a skunk move across my neighbors pasture at about 150 yards. He never looked up to catch the reflection in his eyes, but the laser was bright enough and clear enough, I could see exactly what it was.

Have you considered battery powered socks to help with the cold weather problem? Shouldn't be too difficult to modify one to wrap the light in? Kinda' sucks though, that much dough for a product that you can only use in weather it likes, which isn't necessarily the weather the varmints like.

I have thought about the sock deal. Might be a good solution. I continue to use my ND3 unmounted as a spotlight. It works very well, except during the very cold weather we had recently. I have tried differnt ways to keep it warm. Last night I tried somethng new that has worked very well so far. I cut a 1/4" strip of double sided carpet tape and cut it 4 or 5" long. I wrapped it as tightly as I could around the 1/4" adjustment ring. Then I took and ace bandage cut in half, and wrapped it tightly around to the ND3 making sure that it stuck to the carpet tape. Now i hold the end of the unit and rotate the ace bandage which turns the adjustment ring. Works well so far.

I have a different BSA green laser. After buying it, I read the manual and it has a fairly narrow operating temperature.....something along the lines of 70-100F. So colder than 70F, no good. That isn't the exact temp range, but fairly close. The battery powered sock might work, I bet you could do some good with that.
