Any up for a Prairie Dog shoot

Any up for a Prairie Dog shoot - 05/15/22 08:56 PM

I know this last minute. I have a prairie dog shoot scheduled for 21-22 May 2022. Due to unforeseen circumstances the other folks who were going had to cancel. If you're interested in going on a pdog shoot near Lubbock Texas, send me a PM. The shoot will be close to Lubbock depending on which Dogtown we're shooting on that day. I'm planning on staying in Lubbock. I have spots for up to 3 additional shooters. 250 will include both days. Transportation/lodging is not included. If you've never been on pdog shoot, this is your chance. Most shots are in 250-500 yards range. Although you can shoot much farther if you like. Most folks use the smaller calibers(varmint) for this type of shooting. .223, 220swift, 22-250. My last trip with this particular guide service, I shot 671rds on a two-day shoot.

The weekend forecast put the temps in the upper 70's to mid 80's for the shoot. Perfect weather

Weather was pretty chilly for late May in Texas. Temps started out in the upper 40's when we started and topped out right about 70 degrees at the end of the day. Winds were 16-35 mph on the first day and probably 10-25 on the second day. Tuff conditions to shoot long range in. This past winters drought hurt the dog population as well. Not nearly as good as in years past. I still had a good time, after all a bad day shooting pdogs is better than a good day on the couch. I managed the longest confirmed shot of the shoot. A confirmed pdog at 632 yards. I hit a few farther out but only found blood by the holes. Without a dead pdog, I don't count them as confirmed. [Linked Image]

I'd probably shot 50 plus rounds in that same general area with out connecting on one. Then the winds died down to 10 mph and I shot two pdogs back to back from the same hole. Had two witnesses on the shots. With the winds an at that distance you need a little luck to hit a target that small. It's not just the wind pushing the bullet around either. It's pushing me around in the back of the truck as well.

Yep your classic on the fly trigger pull. Might go to Wyoming this year and perforate a few but nowadays I usually just coyote hunt.

The wife and I head to Wyoming this week for some PD shooting. First time to this location but per the ranch owner lots of PD's and we will be first hunters this spring. Hope weather warms up so dogs will get out of the holes.

I heard there was a plague of sorts that killed many of the hole dwellers last year. Rabbits too.
