Hogs in kaufman County? - 10/26/14 05:45 AM

I just signed a 200 acre lease in Kaufman County off 34, real heavy cover with some good lanes near kings creek. I was curious on what type of hogs should I expect to see out there? Are there a alot of them or are they scare> Were a little late in getting the feeder set up but as you know once we start spinning animals will come in. There is 3 ponds and its next to a wildlife perserve, kings creek and alot of cover. .

Set your feeder to throw at night and put up a game camera. Make some roll barrels too, if the land owner approves first.
Scout the area. Any low lying wet areas, look for hog tracks, wallows. Follow game trails and look around for trees and telephone poles with mud on em (hog rubs). Check barbed wire fences that separate pastures/property lines. See if there are places where hogs dug under neath and crawled through or if there are holes in the fencing where they're getting through. There may be thick hog hairs caught up in the wire there. Walk the shooting lanes/ dirt roads etc and look for heavily used game trails for any signs. Bait those areas.
I hunt a property that has a lot of heavy thick cover and u can almost see the gaps in the cover on one side if the road that match up with a gap on the other side if the road from their game trails crossing over. I've thrown out corn in those areas and shot hogs at night crossing through stopping to eat the corn.
It's late and I just got off work. Good luck. Hopefully others chime in with more advice

The pigs are likely there. They tend to cover large areas. They hit our place several months out of the year and then they are gone and not seen till the next year. Be patient and get a steady feed source.. The post above mine give some good points on making an early determination. I don't know where you are exactly but there are some good deer in parts of the county. They aren't well populated but they arrle here. Good luck and message me if you get questions.
