Varmint Hunting near D/FW? - 09/26/14 01:31 AM

My son and I, (26) are looking for a place within a couple of hours of McKinney to Varmint hunt. We both have our CHL's and we love to hunt rabbits, birds and squirrels etc. with low caliber guns. Does any one know of a good reasonable place that we can go, usually with short notice. I am new to this forum and appreciate any advise.

Check out the WMA's. I used to hunt public land off of Lake Ray Roberts, I think, a few years ago. All you need is your hunters ed, license and a public land permit or endorsement or whatever on the license.

$40-$50 for a Texas Parks and Wildlife "Wildlife Management Area" permit and you get a book that has all the WMA's listed with maps. Different rules and regulations for each property.

Lake Cooper WMA is 1 to 1.5 hours NE and it has 14,000 acres. Used to hunt there all the time.
