Good Friday Double - 04/19/14 12:18 PM
Went out yesterday evening to a friends place west of Abilene for a little bit of calling. I started my set at 7:35 using a Varmint Inc. open reed call. After about 15 minutes a pair started howling maybe 1/2 south of me. Gave a quick series on the call and in a minute or so the 1st dog shows up giving me a 100-110 yard broadside. Popped it and gave another quick series death/pain cry on the call. Wasn't long the 2nd dog popped it's head through the brush and popped it. All told 25 minutes of calling. 1st dog was a fat healthy bitch which I'm sure is full of pups, 2nd was her mate. Dropped them maybe 15 yards apart. Moral to the story,,,,, don't quit calling after the 1st kill. You never know what is lurking around. Get those doubles and triples. A few times I've had a dog and cat laying within feet of one another on one set, the ultimate double.
