.223 Hog Ammo

Yes but our military does not use that ammo. All we use is Lake City arsenal or Black Hills, and I have never seen ANY steel cases in US military ammo. Wolf and Monarch are both made overseas. All 7.62x39 ammo is made with steel cases, but you are talking about a cheap weapon that doesn't matter if you scratch the chamber since they are cheap to replace anyway.

I am talking about my Smith and Wesson M&P AR-15, not an AK-47, I'm not trying to get crossways with you, I know our military uses mainly lake city ammo, all I'm saying is that it is a Military weapon, designed to fire whatever you can pick up that will fit, by design.

I am not critizing your choice in ammo, all I'm stating is what i shoot thru mine. The PMC is brass, the other two (wolf and monarch) are steel..

I use Black Hills 68 grain match HP. Three shots....three kills with my R-15.

so someone is afraid the shell casing is stonger than their chamber?

You would have to be shooting thousands of rounds of steel ammo to make any difference and if you can afford to shoot that much you can afford a new barrel.

I have used hornady 75 gr BTHP: this round blew a huge entry hole and left a chunk of rib laying were I shot one hog. Other hogs I shot in the head with it dropped like a rock.

Remington 55gr HP works awesome but only used on head shots.

Federal Nosler 60gr is an amazing but pricey bullet. I shot a hog quartering to me through the head and the bullet went through the skull broke the spinal cord and exited the top of the shoulder. I shot an 8 point behind the shoulder with it a couple of weeks ago and it didnt make it 40yds with total internal devistation and a large blood trail.

Almost any round works good for head shots. I also dont use cheap ammo in my 20 BB DPMS not worth the risk.

Redneck I'm not trying to start anything. I know the PMC is brass. All I was saying is I have never seen any steel case used b the military, except for the AK. I was in the Marine corps for 4 years in the infantry, Iraq twice, and never saw any steel cased 5.56 ammo.
All I was trying to say is why use steel ammo when you can get brass?

luv2brode, the chamber in a rifle is made from steel also, and yes it is possible for other steel to scratch it. Why do you think cleaning rods are made from brass? Because the steel ones can damage the throat of a rifle.

Wolf ammo is like 5 bucks a box. PMC or Federal American Eagle is like 6. 1 dollar difference for brass and they're both FMJs. Makes sense to me to use brass that can't possibly harm the rifle.

i hear what you are saying but you are talking steel casings and a hardened steel chamber, also i think if a person really checked the steel used for the casings is barely steel at all.

Nowhere in the original post does the poster mention using an AR , so steel or brass is a moot point.

In .223 just about any ammo would do.

I use my 22-250 with a 55 gr soft point. Usually go for an ear shot and have dropped them instantly every time.

j3x, no it was not mentioned in the OP, however RedneckMessiah had said in his AR he uses Wolf ammo which does have steel cases, that is why I brought it up.

All I'm trying to say people is that if a box of brass ammo is 6 dollars and a box of steel ammo is 5 dollars, why not spend the extra dollar and not have to worry about the steel at all? It makes no sense at all to me not too.
