Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch

Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/10/14 01:48 AM

At the recommendation of this forum, i got hooked up with Bob @ Hunters Creek Ranch. Let me say just a few things to keep it short:

Great customer service. Great hunting. Great time.

There was 4 of us and we killed 8 hogs. (I killed 4 of the 8 cuz I'm that good!) lol

If you want to kill some pigs, eat some good food, and have a great time...you owe it to yourself to give them a call.

Finally, let me say that Shannon is a heck of a guy that goes out of his way! He does a great job cleaning/quartering the hogs, etc. Also, he charges a very reasonable and fair $25 per hog...not a ridiculous $75 like some places!

Hey Bob...give me a call when your ready to clear those farmers fields!

Thanks again!

Let me tell you something...They are just a bunch of good people trying to do everything they can to make your experience a great one! If you ever plan to go to an Outfitter...you owe it to yourself to give them a try.

I have my own land i lease that has plenty of hogs, but needed to take a few of my clients out to hunt and it was important they be treated well and i could tell within the first 10 minutes that we would all be in good hands!

Thanks again!

P.S. ill be waiting for that call Bob! lol

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/11/14 04:35 AM

How big of a ranch do they have? Is it high or low fenced?
Posted By: Piper354

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/11/14 11:37 AM

I believe 215 acres. Low fenced. Property is pretty diverse also. Some areas are thick with trees, some is more open and flat. He has low and high box blinds plus tree stands.

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/11/14 11:38 AM

Also has many acres of leased land. Do not know the details of that though.

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/12/14 11:36 AM

Mount Vernon, Texas. 100 miles east of Dallas on I30. About 4 miles north of I30.

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/12/14 10:42 PM

Don't hold me to this...but I believe Bob said he had about 13,000 acres available to him to hunt on. Of course, the majority of that is farm land which attracts everything you would want to hunt anyway. I thought Bob mentioned his hunting property was 300+ acres...but I don't listen well when I have a beer in my hand.

See ya!

I've hunted hogs in Texas and Oklahoma. The last two times have been at Hunters Creek. Plan to make it my yearly (or more often if the financial advisor-AKA wife) 'go to' place when I get the go ahead.
Great Operation. Great People. Great Time.

Bob and gang will put you on some hogs. We killed 10 last trip. Great operation (5-10 minutes to the blinds), great food and close to Dallas. Gotta love it!!

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/21/14 06:48 PM

Do they run there hog dog hunts in the same area as the stand hunts?
Posted By: DirtNapTET

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 03/21/14 07:09 PM

They do, but it doesnt affect the stand hunting. What we usually do is get there for the afternoon hunt and get in the stands. Next morning we go out with the dogs. As long as you arent having a party in the blind, you'll definitely see action at the feeders.

That should have been a question you should ask any outfitter.

I did. But, this outfitter also TOLD me to go to different forums and ask questions about his outfit.
So, I am asking people who have been there what they thought about different things.

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 04/09/14 10:02 PM

I have only done evening hunts with them so I have not had dinner with them, but Doreen can cook some stuff that sure smells good. Bob and Doreen are good people. treat them with respect and they will do the same to you. Have fun and enjoy.

Hunters Creek for me this year...

Shot at 8
Killed 6
recovered 4
this was over four hunts, so I brought one home each time.

For the one day hunt (or 24 hrs) they serve dinner the first night and breakfast the next morning.

Cant remember all of the dinners I have had there, but I assure you they know what they are doing in the kitchen. Most memorable for me was a type of mexican casserole they made, it was outstanding!

Breakfast is usually breakfast tacos, bacon, sausage, cheese, etc.

To sum it up; grub wise or action wise, you wont leave there disappointed.

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 04/12/14 05:25 PM

Two hots a day...breakfast was eggs bacon and pancakes. Lunch..we had cold cuts and chips. Dinners were awesome.
We had the Mexican casserole, BBQ PORK, and on the last night..we brought down OMAHA STEAKS!! They cooked all the meals while we were out killing pigs!! Came in at night to delicious dinners!!

Bob has recently hired an "official chef" that cooks all the meals. He decided to give his wife Doreen a break. Probably a good thing...she has to put up with all of Bob's crazy sh*t..Haha!!

But you won't go down there for the meals...it's definitely a bonus...but you will keep going back for the hogs!!! Awesome place!!

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 04/12/14 07:16 PM

I've never used a guided hunting service so I have a question. When the website says that there is a "$50 per sitting" fee for guided hunts, what does that mean? Is a "sitting" a certain length of time, or does each time you move to a new spot constitute a "sitting"? Thanks

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 04/13/14 02:05 PM

I booked with Bob for next month after reading all I could find on this forum. We are flying in so I hope it all lives up to the billing!

Has anyone seen bobcats there? We'd like to call a few in to the middle of the day.

One question for those who have been there: how far should we plan on shooting?

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 04/13/14 07:53 PM

@dragonuv...not exactly sure about the "sitting fee". We never use a guide. We ask Bob and Shannon where the best spots are and they tell us where we should try. They want you to be successful so that you spread the word about their ranch. I'm thinking that is if you take them out to the stands with you..maybe 1st time hunters?? Don't know for sure...I'll try and find out for ya.

@rodell...I have not personally seen bobcats there..but I'm sure they are there. Have Bob or Shannon try and take you out to the free range area to call them in. I'll talk to Bob and get back to ya!!

We will take a FoxPro with us. There must be cats there, somewhere!

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 04/14/14 02:14 PM

Rodell...HUNTERS CREEK RANCH hosted a hunt that was featured on the sportsmans channel...Excaliber's Hunting the backwoods. On that episode they took a bobcat from a Treestand..so I know they have them there. I think they said it was on the leased property. It would probably work out if you hunted bobcats on the free range during the day then head back to the ranch for the evening hunt for pigs.

When hunting from the blinds, I would say the blind with the furthest feeder is about 100 yds. Most of the others are anywhere from 70 - 20 yds (including the bow blinds)

Good folks out there, we run guided hunts with dogs just down the road near Paris, and occasionally get folks wanting to get in a stand for a aday or to. THey have always gone out of the way to assist in getting those last minute guys somewhere to hunt!

Re: Hog hunting report from Hunters Creek Ranch - 05/20/14 02:57 AM

We had a great hunt there this weekend. Good people, great service and good food. The largest hog from our group was a 230 pounder. Some were taken from stands and some by ambush. With all the rain the foliage was pretty thick and the hogs had lots of food without making an appearance.

City Meat in Mt. Vernon did a great job with processing the meat.

I would definitely recommend them.
