Scope Mounted Hunting Lights

Scope Mounted Hunting Lights - 02/10/14 05:54 AM

I see a lot of talk on here about the hunting lights that you all use. What is the overall preference between an adjustable laser type light that will reach long distances and a scope mounted spot light. Are most lights used the laser type or would these have more if a tendency to spook game?

mileage and opinions are gonna vary quite a bit depending on what folks are selling or what they've spent a small fortune on and don't want to admit the downfalls. I know what works for me and don't have anything on the market. Green Cree Led is the ticket for anything a responsible shooter should be doing. The laser designators light up things good also but..... I have both cree and LD in green. The LD will concentrate more so seems to light things up better at distances (distances you have no business shooting when it is dark) but (yea another one), I have shined deer, our horses, fox, pigs, badger, and cats with the cree with no reaction. Turned it off and hit them with the LD and all were nervous/fidgety and some ran off. Even the horses spooked some and they know it's me coming. Also, if it's misty, foggy, or raining, forget the LD. The cheaper LD's don't work below 40-50 degrees. Last summer, folks on here and a couple other forums were drummin up the 250 +/- buck kill lights. I got a copy with remote pressure switch for 36 bucks and it is my favorite light.

This is a better deal than I got back then:

If you want a American made product go to www.texasboars.com or www.feederlights.com
The link above is made in China. IMO texasboars has superior equipment and it's made in the USA!

Texasboars lights eliminate the need for scope mounted products!

www.bigpiglights.com got one after being referred by stxranchman here on the forum. Small light doesn't weigh much and have shot pigs out to 225 yards with it.

Thanks for the input. Feeder lights would be great but I don't necessarily plan to be stationary. I really like the laser lights but also definitely concerned about the issue with low temps. It seems that most of them get bad reviews when used when its cold out. Anyway, very good info on here.

the subzero line is supposed to be good, but the beam has the same characteristics as the cheaper ones (got mine for 65 bucks including batteries, charger, and remote switch). Animals will be just as spooked with a 400 buck beam as they are with a cheap one. Again, mileage may vary, but that is my experience. It's nice to be a midnight walmart shopper and preach "USA Made" but most (if not 100%) of the components of these things are made in china. Last I checked, there ain't but 1 china so..... I'm all for supporting local businessif priced decent, but will be damned if I eat macaroni & cheese or ramen noodles so someone else can eat steak or kiss someones [censored] to give them my business... Good luck.

I got one from panther89 on here about a month ago and can't be happier. Haven't spook any animals with it yet. I got the green and red bulbs and have killed yotes and pigs at 25 yards and the furthest was with the green on a pig at 312 yards. It's a great price ($100) for the light and all the accessories you get with it.
