That's never shot a coyote?

I see people shoot them all the time while deer hunting. I have hunted all over north and west Texas. I see a lot of coyotes and sign. But I never see them while deer hunting. Literally never. I can think of one time hunting at Whitney. That's it.

I plan to do some calling on my place after deer season. They're out there. I just don't see them when I have a gun in my hand.

Out here I have used fox pros and had them light the woods up. Sounds like a damn concert around you but they dont come out. I was hunting one night and heard pigs, then heard yotes actually take down a piglet, but out of sight.

100% of my coyote kills have been by chance. Usually checking hog traps or something like that. I am sure there is a way, but we just cant call them in

I thought they were deer at first, but after looking through the scope I realized it was two yotes. I told myself, after a night of seeing nothing, I was going to shoot if they came back out

Some people just pile them up. Either they are master callers, or they're hunting areas that don't get called much.

Most likely they are either seeing you or catching your scent, they are a lot smarter about humans than deer are.

I believe that. I never thought deer were that intelligent.

Shot one ones never found him

I've shot a lot of coyotes, but I will admit that I have called in a total of ONE coyote. The rest of them were taken as they crosses pastures or right-of-ways. And I guess most of them were taken over bait, which would be the dead pigs that I decide to not process for food. The bait approach works pretty darn well.

They seem to super alert most of the time. They are really cautious critters. I had an old mangy limping one on my place for a few years. I could never get a shot on him. It seemed that he could feel it when my eyes were on him and he'd disappear like smoke. Probably he'd been shot before and learned from that experience. But one day...he just practically walked into my crosshairs.

Sure wish I could do better with calling them in. Lord knows I've tried.

Years ago, as a kid/teenager, my cousin and I would hunt after midnight and numerous times called in coyotes, small packs like 3 to 6 coyotes. I ran the caller and the spotlight while my cousin always got to shoot them, funny how it worked out that way every time. Anyway we used the old wooden Weems caller.
I've seen and shot 4 coyotes during the day while deer hunting. All of them were alone. All of them were older coyotes that most likely had been kicked out of the pack.
I hear packs of coyotes all the time but never seen a pack. Heard some so close that it gave me chills and I was amazed I couldn't see them, but our land is thick brush with a few roads and trails so they have pretty good cover and they are way to smart.

I usually shoot one a year while deer hunting, and have called in a couple, but have been calling all week and haven't called one in yet. Did call in two bobcats though.

I have seen one pack of coyotes. Out of nowhere they just came boiling through a gap in my fence. I hadn't even heard them howling by then. I got 3 I think. I've gotten quite a few doubles. When you see two (mates), shoot the one that's behind. The other will typically run a short ways and then stop and look back.

They say that a Cheetah is the fastest critter afoot, but if you've ever shot at a coyote up close and missed (yes, I did), you will see some serious speed. When a coyote gets up into high gear, it's a blur.

Coyotes remind me of crows, once you spot them and the gun goes up they go running.

I agree with Dogcatcher...coyotes are smart to human activity around them....so they adapt to their surroundings...in the city no one messes with them so they become brazen...in the country, you have to hustle, mind your p's and q's to get within shooting distance...If there are some near you and they start yipping...you have just been busted...Basically, it takes a long time to become smarter than the coyotes so that you can kill them regularly.

If you can find a turkey feather, tie it on a string...then tie the string on a stick and set so the feather will blow in the wind just above the weed/grass level (18in) in a small clearing cross wind from where you expect the coyotes to be coming in...it will divert their attention from your mouth calling during the daytime...alway sit so that you can see your downwind direction for two or three hundred yards. Coyotes are notorious for circling downwind to smell the "rabbit" that is squealing. Pups are about the only ones that will come straight in without first scent checking the downwind side.

Also, take a crow call and use it to attract some crows..then use a fawn distress call..often times coyotes find a meal by following crows and stealing their bounty...basically, you have to tune in to what wildlife food source is readily available...Coon distress or fight type calls can be deadly on coyotes...basically, just pay attention and cover your downwind side...AND NO MOVEMENT/NOISE...Remember, they can hear your vehicle, so you need to sit quietly for a short while prior to calling, don't slam your doors, rustle around clanging gadgets, etc,...a dead rabbit (or half dead and squealing) road kill works occasionally. You will find yourself seeing more coyotes, whether you get the shot or not. hope this info helps.

Wind plays a huge factor.along with volume and time..not saying ur doing anything but there are alot of factors that come into play when calling esp. a area that is called around often

I have done very little calling. I'm mostly talking about never seeing them while deer hunting. It's not a bad thing.

Only seen one once while deer hunting.

One of the first times I ever called at our E.Tx place nailed my first and only coyote. I thought that was easy...boy was I wrong. I recently got a foxpro and I'm 0 for A WHOLE LOT of calling... crafty little critters.

If they are howling all around you that is usually them just laughing at you cause you have already been busted. I've called hundreds of them and when they start howling all around us I just go on to another spot cause they have already know that we are there and they are letting everyone else know it too.

I shot two yotes this hunting season. Opening weekend in the morning hunt one came out right behind my feeder and was crossing the opening so I started making noise and he stopped and was dropped. The second yote came out in late afternoon while hunting in the stand. I checked my right away one last time with binoculars due to getting to dark to see and saw the yote eating corn. I lit him up with my green led flashlight and he never looked up and I dropped him. I had a yote on game cam at 9 am eating corn off the ground at my feeder. Never have called one up.

No, you are not the only one. I have tried calling them in several times and usually only realize that they were there when I got up to leave and caught a glimpse of them running off. It's like their curiosity kept them there but they would not reveal themselves until I revealed myself, then they were gone like a shot!

If there were an easy way to take classes, or a course, on hunting them, I'd do it! It's something that can be done year round, and controlling their numbers will definitely improve the deer herd.

I know I've seen a coyote at least once while hunting pigs, and probably several other times that I just don't remember. I've never even raised the gun. I'm not going to eat one, and I don't sell pelts, so I'm not going to shoot one. We see them occasionally walking across the pasture and we just watch them go. In 8 years I haven't lost a single calf, goat, or chicken to coyotes. I like seeing them, just as I like to watch bunnies, turkey, and roadrunners.

Keep trying. You will figure it out. That's all I'm saying

I never see them when hunting... Just hear them taunting me. I'll get one, someday...
