We will be there. I hope for a good turn out we need everyone to come out and vote lets get this hunt back to the biggest in the state. I did hear that if you have hunted this hunt before that you no longer have to stay and listen to the reading of the rules. Cant wait for the weekend lets just hope we get some good weather. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Might be a low turn out at Graham this year. I know of 6-8 teams that would usually hunt Graham but we're going to Angelo for the competition and big money. They're going to have to make some big changes to ever draw a turnout like years passed. Main one being paying a years tuition for some kids college. The pot is watered down plenty before they take that out.

What's the deal with tuition? I haven't read anything about that. The website says 100% payout minus $1 per man for tournament expenses-

They may have changed the rules since last year without a vote or you will find out when u get there about it. You'll get the same response about the scholarship money from the biggest portion of us.

So did they take money from the pot one year for a scholarship fund without letting anyone know? I'm just curious, the last time we hunted in this tourney was 2011, but we didn't make it to the weigh in. So I guess maybe we missed out on hearing about a scholarship.

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/09/13 05:51 PM

Looked at the clear fork website and it looks like its 100% payback. Also saw posted in the rules "no 4 wheelers". After all this rain were getting it could get a little western trying to drive to some of the locations to hunt.

Kyle, please elaborate on what changes your talking about that need to be made. Im new to calling contests but the way I see it, the more contestants, the more prize money. Those 6-8 teams you referred to would make a pretty big difference in the prize money in the Graham contest if its 100% pay back as claimed.

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/09/13 08:24 PM

The amount that goes to the scholarship varies with the number of teams. It's a percentage best I can remember. I went and looked over what I could find from years passed and there was nothing said about the scholarship in the entry forms. This is a memorial hunt and that's just part of the way they give back to the community, I guess. It's a good hunt and put on by great guys just not enough money anymore with so many hunts at the same time.

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/09/13 09:17 PM

The guy who put this hunt on for years past away and each year they give away a scholarship thats why the hunt was changed to the Carlton memorial hunt, its not just graham kids that apply for it, its not a big portion at all. There is a couple thngs they want to change about this hunt to get it back to where it was and they are gonna go over a couple things this weekend to try to get it back there. The only way we can get it there is to show up and vote, Atvs have been a big topic and it will be adressed this weekend and I myself think atvs will be allowed in the future just not this weekend. this is a great group of guys that put this hunt on and try to make it the best for everyone but you know how it is no matter what the rules are some will like them and some will not. Most hunts just post rules and thats the way they are carlton started this hunt by putting it together how the hunters wanted it to be ran. I myself would like to see this hunt get back because I like my chance of winning a contest with a limit of animals rather then one without a limit or one depending on how heavy your cat is.

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/09/13 09:28 PM

I personally think the scholarship is a great idea in honor of Carlton, he always wanted to help out the kids!

Maybe I am wrong but I just hunt the contest for the competition and enjoyment of hunting, I mean if it was all about money I wouldnt hunt in any of them I would just go back to college and become a doctor or lawyer!

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/09/13 10:41 PM

Graham has got to change lots of things or it will continue to decline just as the Elk City hunt has the last few years .
Lil things would make a big difference . Up the the ante to 50 a man rather than 35 dollars . Allowing 4wheelers . Paying 1 place in big Dog and Cat contest instead of 2 . Dont pay out as many places so as to increase the payout . Scholarship is a good deal the others would be the main thing .
I havent missed a Graham hunt since 98 until last March . but with the paying of so many places and the regularity of ties I went elsewhere .
I hunt for fun and all that but people are going to go where the money is . Thats just the long and the short of it . A few years ago Elk City had 130 teams . They popped off about putting half the pot to the Crippled one eyed injun fund and the next year they had 72 teams .
Im hoping that the heads of the CKM will get together and bring this hunt back to its once proud status as the greatest hunt in TExas but until they do ill be going to the WTBB . Good Luck guys .

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/10/13 02:42 AM

I will be headed up there to Graham, while my brother will head to San Angelo. I will let my voice be heard and hope to help bring this contest back. I hunt both Graham and San Angelo contests and hope to continue to do both in the future. I also believe if atvs are voted in it will go into effect with this hunt. I agree with alot Clay has to say, this hunt has been 35 per man since gas and diesel was way under 2.00 per gallon. This is a great contest and dont let the scholarship fool you, it is for a great cause and to honor a great man that did alot for varmint hunting and competitions in Texas. They don't make them like Carlton Kendrick anymore.

Does anyone know the results for this hunt?

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/14/13 02:48 AM

I didn't do worth a flip so didn't go to weigh in. Still had a good time thru the rain, sleet and snow. They voted in using 4wheers and voted to continue using 10% of the overall money for the scolorship fund. Both votes were pretty much 100% for or so it looked by the show of hands.
This was my first contest and won't be my last.

Re: Graham Predator Hunt - 01/14/13 03:37 AM

Can't remember what exactly won but think they were a cat shy of a limit. Last in the money was 5th place and they had 3 dogs and a cat. Heavy dog was 38.8 and coon was 21. Can't remember heavy cat but was only 22 lbs I think. The hurricane force winds made it tough.
