Elusive wildlife xlr 250

It's rated for around 250yds but it will light up much further. I will be getting a second one to use for scanning and leave this one on my rifle.

I have one on the way. If it's anything like what I keep hearing, it's gonna be awesome!

I use the VRL-1, comes with a red and green module, batteries, charger, mounts, pressure pad, white is available for $16 more. I haven't ranged it but it throws light well over 200 yards. Combined with my 5x night vision, it's unbelievable how far I can identify things at night.

You won't be disappointed and you can't have just one.

I would really like to test it side by side with the other brands offered just see if there is any difference in range or quality.

Give Wicked Lights a look. They have different packages available. Green, White, Red, all the different mounts, and they are very bright!

The XLR-250, Wicked Light 400, and Varmint Lights VRL-1 all perform about the same. They each come with different kits available. Currently, the best bang for the buck is probably the VRL-1. As stated above, the kit comes with 2 LED modules, a green and a red. I own all three lights, use all three, and am happy with all three.

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/12/12 04:06 PM

One of them also offers a BLUE led but I cant seem to remeber which one. Can someone tell me the brand?

I have a head light light that has blue and red.
Blue light seems to work the best for me. Red doesnt light up much. Green works great but I want to test the blue next to the green.

Nevermind......I found it. It's the same brand I have.

I am very interested to hear more about the XLR 250 mounted to a Scope.

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/13/12 01:43 PM

I haven't killed with it yet but I've messed with it at the lease. I lit up the top if a ridge that us about 350yds from camp. It wasn't day light bright at that distance but still impressive. I did light up some cows at about 150 and you could have made a clean shot through the scope.
To my eyes, the green light really defines everything. It gives it shape, crisp shadows and depth.

For me the red isn't as good as the shadows and depth doesn't pop out like the green. My headlamp has red and blue. I can see fine with blue but not red.
I can't wait to try the blue XLR250

I like the ND-3 and have had very good luck with it.

If you are not hunting from a blind, mounted on top of scope is good.
If you are hunting from a blind, mount the light as far forward on the gun as you can.

With it mounted on top and hunting from a blind, there is too much light projected INSIDE the blind.
Or if you have tall windows or can stick the rifle far enough out to place the light outside the blind.
The light reflected inside the blind will also make it harder to see outside.

Mine seems to be clearer and I can see better with it mounted up there but I usually mount it forward on the rail as it's more compact and easier to turn on/off.
The pressure pads are cool but sometimes hard to work with gloves on so I just use the clicky switch on back of light when mounted forward.
It's also nice to turn it on and sweep the area without trying to keep pressure on the pressure pad.

So has it been decided which is the better buy? The XLR-250, Wicked Light 400, or Varmint Lights VRL-1?

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/14/12 05:04 AM

I have the wicked light in green. Love to be able to dim the light. Cost the same as the XLR 250. Works great and better when no moon is present.

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/14/12 08:17 PM

I ordered the xlr250, hope I am happy with it. I will use it this weekend and let ya know. I have a friend with the nd3? it worked well. My son has one similar to the xlr 250, but its max range is about 100 yrds. so I will compare em.

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/16/12 12:26 AM

I've been running the ND3 for a while and have had good luck with it, but bought a couple of green hogzilla lights a few weeks ago, and really like those. For $50 each it's hard to go wrong.

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/16/12 02:25 AM

Nd3 subzero. The focused beam eliminates peripheral shadows that spook hogs or other critters that will take off and blow the hogs out behind them

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/16/12 02:27 AM

I got my XLR 250 today. I've taken it out by the creek behind the house and played with it a bit, and I can say I am favorably impressed. Still trying to figure out just exactly how I want to mount it though.

I took the xlr250 out and I am happy with it. no kills or fancy story's but the light is bright.

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/22/12 08:11 PM

I have the ND3 mounted on a Marlin in 35 REM with a leupold 2-7 , dang nice. Kinda crowded as not much extra room on that small body scope for extra gear, but it works. Also have the XLR 250 hand held, wicked unit !
It's been suggested that Santa bring me another XLR 250 for my AR. They are top notch!

Re: Rifle mounted green light? - 11/26/12 06:16 PM

they all work pretty good, it gets into money spent vs. what u r needing specificly.....the ones that have the pressure switch u can put on the front of the gun are very handy.
