racoons and hog trap - 10/13/11 02:28 AM
the racoons have figured out a way to get into my trap and eat all the corn before the hogs have time to get there....my trap is the one on the right.
Any ideas on how to keep em out?

Mix diesel with your corn.

the diesel trick works good, it will also keep the deer out of your traps. talk about a train wreck

X2 on the diesel. The anti freeze is just cruel, even for a coon. It causes the renal system to shut-down and they die a very slow, very painful death. Plus, once you put meat out there, you get other critters come in that you might not want dead.

I wouldn't put out anything soaked with antifreeze.

Using antifreeze is illegal and will kill non target species.
*Fixed.*

ive heard you can dig a hole under the trap and put the corn in the hole that way the coons cant get to it as easy and dont eat it all, tried it this weekend will see how it works

I've always said, if it isn't broke don't try to fix it. Corn works well by itself, but when it comes to trapping hogs, I encountered the same problem with the deer and coons, diesel does the trick.

We used to have trouble with coons on an old lease, they would spring the trap and climb out. It had a top sides and botom, we wraped the thing in chicken wire and started catching them.
