two for one.

two for one. - 08/12/11 05:43 AM

i had been letting my son shoot lately because he is going back to school soon. tonight he was at a friends house. i went to check feed tubes this afternoon and found them empty even though my son had a kill there Tuesday morning at 3 am. i called him and asked if he cared if i tried tonight and he told me to go ahead.

i got to the lease around a little before 7 pm and ran into a new guy on the lease. we talked for a while then i headed out for my spot. my feeder goes off at 7 pm but i thought the pigs were coming in til after midnight. i turned the corner and saw pigs running away from my feeder. i was for sure i had missed them. i put 2 and 2 together and realized that there was more than one group coming to my feeder. a smaller group when the feeder went off and then a bigger group later that empties the tubes. i think the same thing had happened monday because there was pig tracks under the feeder and the corn was gone from the 7 pm spinning when we got a late start and got there at 8pm but a larger group came in after midnight. i had first thought monday that my feeder had not gone off because the battery was low.

anyway, i hit the tester on the feeder to throw some more corn and added a couple of pile of the mix under the feeder and set up in the stand. around 10 pm, i started to lay down and then i heard a pig squeal in the woods. the lights came on and about 8 medium size pigs came under the feeder. i had told my son that this would be a recon mission to see how long they really take to empty the tubes but the dust was getting heavy. i sighted in a bigger one and let go. down went two. i 110 lb sow and 72 lb boar. didn't plan it that way but the little boy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

How do you.guys make the tubes? Dimensions? How do you stake them down? What's in them? How many do you put down in one area? I'm trying to get as much info so I can make a few.

is that the one with the attachment bolt or the SS eye bolt? i have found mine with the lids unscrewed but not lost because of the attachment bolt. they even frayed the 1/8 steel cable and i switched back to heavy duty 1/4 rope that i get from the army surplus.

here is the link to BigMan's and mine is link in his thread. http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/u...der#Post2376701

i use T-posts to anchor them but right now i have two smaller ones on two of the legs of my feeder with has the light setups.

everybody has there own recipe but i have been using a mix of 2 bags of corn and one bag of sweet/horse and mule. gives it a sweet smell and makes it a little tougher for them to get it out. lately when i hunt i have a extra bucket with a lid of the mix that i had added water and let sit in the sun. it get funky and only a pig could love it. i add a couple of extra piles on hunt night.
