Anybody use the elusive technologies scope mounted light for varmint hunting?

Re: Elusive Wildlife Technologies Lights - 08/05/11 11:24 PM

I recently bought one after doing some reseach on hear and other places. I read stuff like best bang for the buck, can see out past 250 yards etc... I've only been able to get out and try it once so far. I could pick out deer eyes past 250 yards. While I can't really make out a deer in the light when viewed by the naked out I can easily make out a deer in my nikon 4.5x14x40 scope @ 150 yards. Good enough to take a well aimed shot. However I have not had any luck with finding varmits with it yet. I only went out for a short time to see how well it worked at a friends place and I used his feeder and known ranges to figure out well I can see with it. I'm headed out again tonight. This time I'll have an e-caller with me to try and call a yote up.

Have the xlr250 in green . love it. Have used it on birds coons and a few tree rats didn’t spook em .came with mounts for scope and barrel as well as home and car charger. batt. life is good. with a decent scope it reaches out really well.dont have to be a 3 or 400 dollar scope to see pleanty far.mine came with the push button tail cap and the corded on off switch.

I have the red, it's not too bad I guess. I dont think you can get 250 yards out of it like they say though....atleast not with the red.

The only complaint I have about it is it puts a glare on the scope that makes it hard to see things. But that may be because I have the light mounted on a stainless rifle.

Anyway I like it so far, it was worth the money. I'd like to find out if the barrel mount affects the accuracy any of the rifle.

i can see further with the green over the red. the last time i was in the store they showed me that it comes with a option to be able to control the power if you think it is too bright at closer objects. i had mine mounted on the mag tube of my shotgun because of the scope glare and had no trouble with accuracy. since i have switch to using their feeder lights, i put it on my 22 lr's scope for my son to hunt around the house at night for the raccoons that still his dogs food. he loves it.

Re: Elusive Wildlife Technologies Lights - 08/06/11 07:17 PM

this is what I posted about barrel mounting about a month ago for the same guestion......

after watchin your posted question and not seein a reply I had to find the answer for myself. I have the xlr250 in green .I bought it for my trip down to sqiggys hog huntin.dont have anything up here we can hunt with it but it is still money well spent.
while at sqiggy's place I had mine scope mounted didn't notice much diff .as far as weight ect. what I’ve done to answer your question and mine is this..... I took out my 17hmr (it's cheaper to shoot than the 270) I took for hogs. I shot 2 5 shot groups w/o the light and was planning to shoot 2 groups w/the light but ended up goin 3. the first w/light was all over the place .had a little trouble gettin used to the balance of the gun with the weight hangin off the barrel. after handling the gun a little with the diff. balance the followin 2 groups were so close to the 2 groups w/o the light I gotta say it didn't really affect it enough to tell the diff. (once you get used to the new bal .of the gun).
idk maybe I shoulda shot with the light first but it wasn’t a real scientific test was usin the corner of my tail gate for a rest and shootin at a 146 yards.(range finder checked)and the target was a couple Gatorade lids off a couple 12 oz. bottles.
the gun was a salvage 93r17 no mods pre accue trig. the scope was a walmart tasco 3-9x40 and the bullets were cci tnt 17gr jhp.
hope this helps ya some and I think if I was gonna use mine on the bbl I would mount it and handle the gun for a bit to get the feel of the bal. with the extra weight .

The XLR250 works great. I prefer the red. It easily reaches out 250 yards. They have just come out with an extension tube which will allow you to add one more battery and further extend your burn time. I ordered my extension tube Friday.

I visited with the EWT boys at the Houston TTHA Show last weekend. Looks like a great product and they have something for about every night hunter.
Adios,

Bob, is that light mounted directly in the barrel with the clamp that comes in the package?

Re: Elusive Wildlife Technologies Lights - 08/09/11 04:27 AM

I have an XLR 100 and a couple of their photo controlled feeder lights.

The 100 goes great on my bow, and is right at home on my AR as well. I need to order a Picatinny top for my scope ring so I can put it on my 17HMR as well for corn thieves.

I haven't stretched it out too darn far, but out to about 90 yards, I can see clearly through an optic, and easily out to 40 with my bow.

My buddy has a XLR 250, that's what started it all. I took it with me on a pig hunt a few months back, and had a ball. I'll never own another darn Q-Beam again after that. I took it out to FtDavis a few weeks back, and as clear as it is out there, I was looking at critters at 400+ yards (distance verified the next morning with laser).

CC,

That is an offset mount on the gas block, not the barrel.

Re: Elusive Wildlife Technologies Lights - 08/10/11 02:12 PM

I have the Sniper Hog Light which I believe is the same as the Elusive light. Mine is in red and I can see out past 100 yards with scope. My scope is an old Simmons so it is possible that you could see further more clearly with a better scope. The light shines further, I just can't see as clearly with my scope.

I bought this light and it is the exact same housing as the Sniper Hog Light I currently have and shines much further since it is white. It appears to be the exact light for $25. The inside could be different, I don't know. I haven't used it for an extended time yet so I don't know how the battery life will hold up. The website has the mounts, rechargeable batteries and all. The downside is it took about 3 weeks for delivery, but you can buy several lights for much less. I bought three different models, two white and one green. All have worked well so far.

I've been using the green for about a year now. Works great. Best night hunting light I've bought so far. Just charged up the batteries last night for use this weekend.

I've been reading a lot about these and haven't seen any mounted on an AR with rails. Do you need a specific mount?

triggerdan - nice find that's a lot cheaper and does look the same. The specs say it uses Cree LED (good stuff), so it's probaby the same MFG in China that makes the EWT.

Here's an interesting read on the place in China:

I believe the 250 fits a 1 inch mount. I have mine mounted on the side rail foregrip on my saiga, it rocks big time.

Just mounted mine on the barrel with the little barrel mounting ring that comes with it. It got rid of the glare problem but still have to see if the clamp on the bbl will affect accuracy. Will check back this weekend.

I have my 250 mounted on the small rails on top of my PEPR using this: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR372-1.html . It works well, and requires no tools. Easy going from day to night hunting.
