8m3 Carnage

Posted By: KC

8m3 Carnage - 12/05/10 02:37 AM

Wolf Military Classic Hollowpoint uses a Russian military bullet referred to as the 8m3. It has three prefail notches in the jacket and fragments very reliably. I bought a hundred rounds to try and finally got to put them to the test today...

So I got pigs.

Three came running and three took a dirt nap. The 8m3 tore them apart. One shot to the hip had an exit wound 3" across and it took big chunks of the hip with it. Another shot literally severed a front leg. This ammo is oh so cheap and oh so extremely effective. I'm hooked, ordering a case soon...

Nice carnage! I have an AK very similar to yours.
You look like one mean dude in that second pic, lol. If I didn't already know you were a school teacher, I'd swear you were some kind of double nought, special operative agent.

So what are we considering 8m3 bullets these days... I just got off the phone with Wolf and he won't say if they are or aren't 8m3. The older ammo has red sealant and the boxes said milspec and the current batch is stamped Wolf on the casing instead of ULY.

Just curious if you have a reference to the currect crop of Wolf MC 124 gr being legitamate 8m3 bullet heads...

Obviously your field work speaks volumes!!! Nice work.

Also have you ever tried Vmax bullets? or DPX ?

Interesting... those should do nicely in my SKS along with my AK. I'm gonna have to check out my stock and see if I actually have any of those. How far away were the invading porkers when you shot 'em?

And yes, I have tried the V-Max bullets. They worked admirably but violate the cost rule.

As an alternative I would recommend the Brown Bear 123 gr soft point load. I was planning on using them but couldn't find any locally.

KC, I still have some soft points if you need some lemme kno. looks like those are working good enuff tho

KC

Ever since you posted this I have been looking to score some boxed and labeled 8m3 ammo (SASPAN).

Yesterday I finally got some off of GB. It is on its way and I have a hunt planned for Jan 21-23.

My range will be between 50 - 100 yards.

If I get some I will post here, cool?

Heck yeah man, keep the thread alive. That projectile is the best thing going for AK/SKS/Mini30 owners and most don't even know about it. I'm just trying to edjumacate...

It's easy enough to tell if current Wolf MC is 8m3, just get a cheapie magnifying glass or use a needle. Carefully run the needle around the hollowpoint cavity. If you feel it catch in three notches, you've got 8m3. A magnifying glass should allow you to see the prefail notches easily. The last batch I got was 8m3 for sure, and it was the non sealed polymer coated case, Wolf, not Uly headstamp.

Re: 8m3 Carnage - 01/14/11 07:57 PM

No. If I have them all killed by the time you come back you'll just have to hunt squirrels!

Re: 8m3 Carnage - 01/15/11 03:51 AM

actually i would love to kill a ton of squirels. i love tanning them and am gonna try to taxidermy one. and i know someone who eats them.

Re: 8m3 Carnage - 01/15/11 03:58 AM

Why don't you eat em?

Nothing wrong with a good mess of squirrel...

Re: 8m3 Carnage - 01/15/11 04:00 AM

ive never tried but ask misty i told her i wanted one to eat one!

i just wanna taxidermy like 100 of them and have them all crawlin across our game room wall!

Posted By: KC

Re: 8m3 Carnage - 01/15/11 04:04 AM

Taxidermy isn't a verb bud.

You want to mount them. If you're a 1920's African big game hunter you want to stuff them.

We'll make a redneck of you yet. Now you HAVE to eat a squirrel before I take you pig hunting. Think of it as your bona fide...

Re: 8m3 Carnage - 01/15/11 04:08 AM

i dont mind eaten them at all haha and taxidermy is a verb

taxidermy:[english} the stuffin of animals to show respect and honor to your glorious kills! < straught from webster casey!

Finally I got a shot on one with the Saspan. The front leg was shredded internally, all jello like.

Formidable round, lovin it.
