whats the biggest varmint i can take with a 22. all ive got is a 22 and a 243. figured the 243 would jack them up to much for mounting. dont have the funds to drop on a new rifle and scope, let me know what yall think.
You can drop a coyote with a .22. Its all about shot placement IMO. A 243 shouldnt tear up a pelt too bad either.

I've killed Wildebeests, Elk, and Cape buffalo with my single shot 22. It's all about shot placement.
with the right loads i would go with the .243
Just about shot placement. Ive killed plenty animals with a .22. JMO
Look for some 58 grain vmax for your .243. Much better choice IMO. Where at in the Hill Country?
im right on the kimble county/menard county line
u can kill em all witha 22, but there is also no reason not to use a .243 for any cat. now for like a koon or something that size, go with the .22
Heck, I killed a bobcat with my 270 at about 90-95 yards with a 150 grain bullet and still saved the pelt. Shot placement is the key to anything you use.

All these were killed at close range with a .22 in the ear.
coyote with a good shot placement and fairly close and a hog but proably nothing over 50 pounds and nothing further than 20 yards and you will want to get a good shot placement.
