Slab for dog pens. - 09/08/16 02:30 AM

I am fixing to poor a 10 x 15 slab for a couple of dog pens. I plan on forming it with 2x 4s. Will that be thick enough or can i get by with thinner than that?

Was planning on using some leftover cattle panels as rebar

One by fours would be easier to work with but you should be fine with the 2 by 4s.

I'd do 2x4s and that will leave room to bevel it a bit so the water will run off.

I'd make it high on both ends and put a drain about 5 to 6 feet from the gate. The dogs will come to the front to do their business and the back will star dry.

Pros generally put their drains at the back of the kennel because they don't want to walk to the back to feed the dogs.

I sloped mine to the back, with a trough on the outside to wash the poop away, put in a mini septic, worked great.

Mine's like this ,except no septic, use the flat shovel for solids.

Colt, could you start another thread about your septic design/

Mine drains out to an east facing slope. I seldom wash solids through it. I throw them into the pond. The catfish eats them but I don't eat the catfish.
Here you go.

when I poured the slab (sloped to the back) I extended the slab about 20" past the back fence, formed a trough the width of a square nose shovel, sloped it to one end, buried a p trap above the tank, run lateral lines. this was 50yrs ago, were no codes, the ground was rocky so I had good drainage through the lines, I extended the sheet metal roofing out past the trough, this kept most of the rain out.

a note, I had 10 runs, so this saved quite a lot of clean up time.
