A couple of pics from the weekend

A couple of pics from the weekend - 11/18/14 03:46 PM

We didn't find the amount of birds we would have liked but we were limited to certain parts of the Ranch until after gun season this year so I am not going to be disappointed yet, we struggled Saturday afternoon and Sunday, but had a great hunt in just a few hours on Monday morning so I am hopeful that it was just the dogs being out of shape and just not finding birds at first. Here are a couple of pics.

The cover looks nice.
The quail fields I have access to are covered in knee high ragweed.

Did you notice if the ragweed had seed?

Yes it does, and can get tough on the dogs eyes.

Thanks, getting reports from SC Kansas that ragweed has little or no seed. Bad deal.

I've never checked for seed in ragweed. We checked our crops and they were loaded with goat weed.

Love the action pic, proud your dogs seem to be all sitting tight. Mine would be about three feet off the ground in a lunge at that point!

The ragweed had lots of seeds. Was pretty dry up there though. I think we will have a decent year, coveys are pretty good sized. We aren't going again till mid December, now that I'm done with our storage building, I have a little more time to train and run the dogs with the Mule since it's not so hot. That will help too I think, I didn't work the dogs on birds at all before the season this year. And I don't have an excuse, I have a pigeon coop full of nice Homers.

Is that Max/Punkin or Star in the foreground?

Thats Star in that one. Didn't get Punkin on a covey this trip, he was in on a single that he, Star & D.O.G. flushed. And almost forgot, he retrieved a bird for Paul too.

I guess my tossing that practice dummy for him worked. Give him an extra treat for me.

He loves to fetch. I've been using that to my advantage to help get him in shape. he looks pretty darn good. By the end of this bird season, he will be in top shape I bet.

Hello my friend . Glad to hear you have been for hunt. Would you be interested in a hunt 12-6-14 if it materializes?
