Anyone going to be out this opening weekend?
Thought about it but decided to skip the crowds. Will wait a few weeks.
Headed to Nebraska instead.
Going Tuesday. Hopefully the crowds will have thinned out by then.
What part of the state? (Direction)

There is some really good public hunting in western Oklahoma, Black Kettle in Roger Mills county, Packsaddle and Ellis County Wildlife Area in Ellis County, Ft. Supply and Cooper in Woods County. Get ODW maps as it can be tricky especially Black Kettle, lots of small tracts but can be very good. Know the regs. These areas will be closed during deer gun season.
Oh yeah, take your dog boots, lots of sand burrs and they are bad this year. Water out there will give you and the dogs the squirts so carry at least your drinking water.

Oh yeah, he's part of the group now! He will see his first wild birds hopefully Saturday morning. Oh, and we changed his name back to Punkin. You can still call him Max if you want though. He'll answer to both.
Well we are here and got camp set up. Weather man says low of 15 next couple days. I'm glad we are not in a tent, not that I could of pitched it in this wind. I hope the birds aren't afraid of the cold!
Cold front hit us in nebraska yesterday. 30mph wind and a low of 18.
Ended up with 2 pheasants, 4 other points on hens, 2 quail, and a treed and retrieved squirrel.
Blue's first Wild pheasants so I was happy.

Congrats for you and Blue! Tell me more about your pup. We only hunted for an hour. One point, no birds shot. Wind was blowing hard! My southern blood no likey. Scouted around today, so we'll be ready tomorrow.

How'd it go today?
Blue is my vizsla. Turning out to be a pretty good dog I think.
Here's Blue and a pic of my wife as the cold front blew in. It was pretty miserable.

Chris: let us know how it was at Arnett. My trip was cancelled. My hunting partner ( 84 yr old ) said lets wait until there's better conditions, so we wait until Dec after deer season. LOL

It should be good. We found one small covey in about 45 mins of hunting. It was too cold for us to be out very long. Biologist said groups were avg 1.5 coveys per hour.
Unfortunately I didn't end up going. I sat down last night to buy licenses and realized the 75$ five day license isn't good for quail (which is ridiculous by the way).
I was still down to go since I would hunt more this year but my buddy bailed because he didn't want to spend 146$ for one day.

We got hit for $176 for the fiscal year license because we plan on going again in January. Since I'm a TX lifetime holder it was especially painful.

Wow, I didn't realize they changed it. The 5 day used to be good for quail too.

Me neither, I don't understand their reasoning behind this move.
