Dog hurt bad hunting miles from truck

I like it...I once carried my Springer about 4 miles back to the truck when he fell into a sinkhole along the Snake River in Idaho back in like 1987 or so.

Carried him on my shoulders.

Something like that would come in handy and could be packed in your vest and darn near forgotten about until you need it

By the time next season rolls around, he will be slim & trim. I've been letting him run with his momma, she will get him in shape. Gonna be doing some road conditioning with the mule pretty soon too. Right now, I would have to have a stretcher & a helper to carry him very far.

I carried a Walker hound "Dixie" around my neck one night for several miles. Dixie had corned a bobcat in a horseshoe bend and got cut up pretty bad in the fight. I was covered in more blood than the dog by the time I got to my jeep at sunrise. I passed crappie fishermen on that last quarter mile that looked scared to death of me, we must have looked awful. That would be the longest one.

Carrying dogs out various distances around my neck over the years has worked well enough for Dixie, a couple snake bit dogs, and one with a bad cut after getting her collar stuck in a tangled barbwire fence. Know too that they will bite you if in enough pain. Both snake bit dogs I had to wrap my jacket around their heads.

You know If I owned something like a nice wingworks vest that is comfortable with a load and has the room, I might consider something like that carrier, but I don't and usually just got a few things stuffed in a fanny pack or an army surplus field shirt with big pockets. So if I bought one of those carriers, honestly, I probably would have left it in the truck. But I do vote on the Like It side.

All my hunting is now done from a vehicle, but I can see how it would help others.

Carried my old truck dog out one hot August day. Ruined a tire and had to walk in. We were a little over 3 miles from home but we traveled about 4 miles total. I had enough water to get to the first stock tank, rest, reload and then curve around to the ranch HQ. Sadie walked about a 100 yards or so and I carried her the rest of the way. Lord it was hot that day. We had used up most of our water and were headed home when I ruined the tire. She and I both liked to got in trouble that afternoon. A carrier like that would have sure helped.

I've just used a jacket wrapped around the dog with a rope sling around my shoulder and around the dogs legs and shoulders. Guess pretty much the same thing. As Sniper said, those pups in pain will lash out and bite sometimes, just because they are hurting. A para cord bracelet and bandana loosely tight over the muzzle can prevent that. A water bottle with a sport top that you can squeeze a bit of water to them helps. All these things are normal that you probably want to carry anyway in your backpack.

It would come in handy if you ever need it. Such an emergency would be really rare, however. You could probably contrive a sling from a shirt or tarp too.
