Some great looking rigs:

Quote:
SAN ANTONIO — Some look like a military vehicle ready for war. Others appear to be a slew of different vehicles welded together to create a sort of four-wheeled Frankenstein. But all of them are tricked out rides that Texas hunters use to hunt down quail, in style. cheers

Photos of the wild-looking creations are featured in a new photo book titled “Texas Quail Rigs” from Houston photographer Lokey, who debuted his work at the Meredith Long Art Gallery the Bayou City last week.

That sucker will go down in soft wet sand whereas a UTV will stay on top.

Unless you let a woman drive.
I got my husbands UTV so stuck, he had to pull it out with a truck. But it was thick gumbo mud, not sand.

You don't know the half of it. There's always a landing strip nearby.

Tell me who is seriously into quail hunting and not quite well to do.

BTW: Lokey mounted his step ladder and pointed his camera at my poor-boy rig when it was loaded up with guests and guns coming in from a dropped bird hunt one morning. Don't know if he actually pulled the trigger or not. I'd be mad as heck if I spent $85 bucks for the book, and wasn't in there.

I personally like to see people doing very well.

You gotta be rich to hunt quail? I used to walk em up regular as a kid. All I need is a shotgun, right? Or is that how it starts?

Texas is the only state that allows hunting from a vehicle as far as I know.

I can assure you, not everyone that is a serious quail hunter is rich. Or even well off. I will agree that most are well off, but definitely not all. (as in, me)

I've noticed that you hunt from a vehicle in Oklahoma. What are the laws in Oklahoma regarding hunting from a vehicle?

You can't shoot from them. Wouldn't anyway. Guns stay in the gun rack till we get into birds then we leave the mule.

I understand some folks can afford that style of hunting, but not for me. Used to be horseback or just boots on the ground. You could easily sneak on some blues if you knew your cover. Haven't been Bob or blue hunting in years though, so guess times have changes.

Sorry, I had to laugh everytime I read your post. I have a 4x4 truck. dog boxes, gun rack on front, high seats above dog boxes. Truck is functional, not too fancy, but paid for for quite some time now, including the replacement engine I put in after 282,000 miles. I've have to spring for very few other repairs. I bought the truck as a WELL used 2002 pickup in 2006, and put in an engine 3 seasons later, about 1 month before I got the truck paid for. I wonder what a horse would have cost me in the same 8 year period? Let's see, for starters, truck, trailer, tack, and how much a month for feed, vet bills, shoeing? Now who is the rich man?

Oh yeah, and I would need four or five horses to make sure I could carry my clients. Man, I can't afford to hunt from a horse!

brace of dogs on the ground, shotgun over your shoulder, few shells in your pocket, plum thickets every 100 yds. How much richer could you get?
They're out there, sic 'em.
