karnes county quail

Anyone else on here hunt Karnes county? Maybe there's already been a thread, if so I can't find it; but I'm curious how this year has gone.

I'll only be able to get back to our lease one more time this season, or maybe twice if it works out. Last time (~4 weeks ago, now), I was by myself, afternoon only, and my dog found 2 coveys ... one pretty large, and the other had ~8 birds. I shot 1 rooster.
At least 30-45 min was spent getting the dog back on our property when he got over on some adjoining property and pointed. I think the birds were running, and I had a heck-of-a time getting him back over on our side of the fence, and away from that property. Anyway ...

Congratulations!! You were concerned about your pointer's lack of range a couple of years ago.

You're right ... more than 2 years ago, though. I thought I had ruined him by getting on to him pretty bad when he took off down the road in front of my house one afternoon, and wouldn't come. Apparently he took that to mean "stay at my feet". It took about 6 months of running him with other dogs, to get him comfortable ranging out again.
He tends to get further and further out as time goes by with no finds. But he still checks in, and I always give him an ata-boy when he does.
