Cowboy Washer - Dove Cleaner - 08/25/23 02:26 AM

Any of y'all used one of these for doves?

I can see how it would be nice with fish and ducks, but not sure on dove.

Put some ice in the bucket as well. They do work like a champ for getting them feathers off and clean.

They work and incredibly easy to make your own is spending 40 bucks one kinda seems high, like it did me.

Just stick the hose in the bucket, carry on. confused2

Pass.. Hard part is cleaning the bird, trimming, plucking feathers...Even if you pull the skin off, lots of times more feather around wing area need to be pluck off. You still got to do that one at a time, rinsing off with water is the easy part. I guess if you got a bird with shot up breast that would help a lot, I just don't seem to do that much. If I was a guide and cleaning a lot birds for other people, I might want one. Last thing I need is more crap...

In my time I have seen some severe droughts. There is NO way I would waste that much water.

The diy videos on these are easy. We use them in west TX when we have a lot of cranes or ducks. Great on fish filets too, and they are cheap and easy to make yourself.

On doves just breast them out wash off with a hose and you’re done. This appears to be a mess.

Yes, they work good for dove. I fillet the breast off the dove like I would a duck, so these are really handy to throw all the breast fillets in there and rinse them off. It is correct that you have to get the feathers plucked that are still stuck in the skin around the wings. I don’t think they’re a mess. They are also nice for throwing Crappie fillets into and rinsing them off. I guess they would waste some water, but I do it in the front yard where my grass needs water anyways.

So you still have to do most of the work -- drawing the bird, removing head, wings, feet; filleting your fish? That does seem like a huge waste of water.

I apologize. I now see that you meant to say “I have had one and they create too much of a mess”. I thought you were just trying to fluff your post count.

Yes, they work great. Cowboy is a great dude met him at the Houston Rodeo in the NRG center. He has all kinds of products now.

My bird hunters head to one of the barns and use a hose like you mentioned. Very little water used in the process.

Yes, it looks like it makes a mess to me too. BUT, I also think it look s pretty handy and could see where this would be nice to have. I hadn't seen this before. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t know how dry it is where y’all are(live in Hamilton County/Central Texas, which is now basically the desert), but there’s cracks in my yard 4 to 6 inches wide. A little water on the ground doesn’t do anything but help. We got the first rain in two months the other day and after an inch of rain it wasn’t even muddy the next day. The cowboy washer is worth the little bit of water it puts on the ground. You don’t have to run it the whole time you’re cleaning dove. Just give it maybe a few minutes and it does its job. just my opinion
