Seriously Boss - 06/30/23 09:49 PM

So I will first start off with saying I shot a little bit of Boss last season. Primarily on a sea duck hunt in the north east. It burns a little dirty, but other than that it was a good shell. While I don't see any need to shoot it all the time bc I've never had much of an issue with killing ducks with steel it has its place.

I recieved an email from Boss today with a new shell they call the "warchief" and its designed for killing ducks at extended ranges. They even claim to have finished off a cripple at 85 yards. They wanted a shell that gave more range for those stall birds that would never fully commit.

Seriously, this is what it comes to. Advertising a shell to skybust birds that won't come into range.

SMH....

Perfect for the guy that wants to set up right in the middle of the WMA, and shoot at every bird with BB full choke 3.5 inch, while everyone else in the WMA watches and shakes their head.

The same Jack Wagons that talked crap the one time I opened up on here and talked freely in a discussion about decoy sets and finishing birds that didn’t know their tail from a hole in the ground will buy it by the case. Then they will testify how many more birds they knocked down at 80 yards with it. Then they will fill us all in that where they hunt, birds don’t finish. Yup, those are the guys they are marketing 80 yard duck loads for….

How many people do you think can even kill a bird at 80 yards? Most people can't even kill birds at 40.

The ones that miss are sky blasters, the ones that hit are sky busters. That both Barney’s.

It’s not the fact of who can kill a duck at 80yds…it’s the fact they are actively marketing it to the dipshots. They talk about killing ducks ethically with one shot, but are now encouraging idiots to extend their range. This is not good for the public hunter. I already deal with kazoo players and sky busters. This is just going to encourage them more and potentially cause more wounded birds that sail off and die.

I shot boss last year for the first time, 2 3/4" #4's

Not impressed at all. Waste of money

If you can’t kill them with cheap shells, you will still suck at shooting with expensive shells too…

Re: Seriously Boss - 07/03/23 02:59 AM

This pisses me off and is a complete bush League move. It encourages poor hunting practices and etiquette. Shame on them. They will never get any more business from me. Tried boss last year for geese. It certainly wasn’t a bad shell. I had no complaints, but it’s not some unicorn shell. People would get exponentially more benefit from patterning their shells and chokes than using boss, but a lot folks don’t want to put forth effort.

Ridiculous. Huge fan of Boss, but reading that email really disappointed me.

As goo or better then TSS? Curious whats so special about the wad.

usually if it holds that tight to 60 means birds are mush at <30 yards

Interesting none the less.

Bismuth isn't even in the same league as TSS when it comes to long range capability. I use boss in my small gauges, but that is a dumb bulletin he put out. Luckily most of the skybusters can't afford it probably.

These are the same cats “geared up” in head to toe Sitka. Doesn’t matter if they can afford it, they’ll buy it to impress their Barney friends.

TSS is some bad [censored] stuff. Alleging copper plated bismuth is of the same caliber is delusional at best.

Correct on 40 yards. We shoot most of our birds at 25-30 yards with cylinder chokes in the sub-gauges. I bet we have close to 100% of the TSS in the pattern at those distances. Very lethal and very pleasant to shoot!

.410 and 28ga.

TriStar G2 .410 is top left @ 40 yards with cylinder choke (75% of TSS in 30" circle)
TriStar G2 .410 is top right @ 40 yards with Skeet choke (93% of TSS in 30" circle)
TriStar G2 28ga is bottom left @ 40 yards with cylinder choke (68% of TSS in 30" circle)
Benelli Legacy 28ga is bottom right @ 40 yards with LM choke (70% of TSS in 30" circle)

Need to see if I can dig up some patterns with the SBE 3 28ga.

THANKS! I am getting ready to load some TSS in 410 shooting the same gun. Would you mind sending me by PM your data for the loads?

Dont see any need to switch from their 3/5 blend in 20g. or 12g. Been shooting very well with it the last 3 years. Great shells in my opinion.

Serious question here. What or how much do you consider “cheap shells”??
The reason I ask is because most boxes of 12g shells are in the $20 range. Give or take a few dollars. I pay close to $30 a box for Boss. But it’s a little cheaper cause we buy in bulk before season each year.

I'm willing to bet the cost per shell for my TSS reloads are less than your steel if you are buying them over the counter minus my time. I can't afford your per hour labor rate, and you sure can't afford mine. grin

Show me another autoloading synthetic .410 besides a TriStar. Rumor is Benelli is working on one, but it hasn't been released yet. Besides if you scratch a barrel on a TriStar just toss it and start over. Little easier on the pocket book than tossing a Benelli. hammer

Well nothings really cheap anymore but shells I ordered last week, 3 inch steel break down to $16 a box of 25.
