Sand hill crane

Sand hill crane - 01/19/17 02:58 PM

A friend and I want to hunt sandhill cranes. We've never hunted them before so I figured I would ask the ones that have.

Is there an outfitting that you have used before that you would recommend? What time of the year do you go? My concern is that an outfitter will say they have birds to get us to go west when all the birds have already moved on.

Many thanks for your advice in advance.

Avian Skies out of Edna TX

We went a few weeks ago and shot a 7 man limit. They will work to put you on the birds.

I am looking to do one in the future so after looking into his prices why doesn't he just round up to make the price even, $199 really? I would bust out the $1 bills to pay that!

No clue why he does it that way. Guess so the guide gets one extra dollar.

Why $199?

It was a marketing ploy discovered by a sales team that studied Sigmund Freud. He had found that the brain of a women is keyed to the first entries, usually only 3 or 4 syllables, that it intakes. The rest is truncated, shut out.

So when the Hunter tells his wife the price of the hunt, because she asked "HOW MUCH?", All she hears is "one hundred" . . . . NOT (((ninety-nine dollars))) Her reply is "Okay Honey, You can Go and have Fun!"

If the Hunter were to tell his wife the price of the hunt is "two hundred" dollars, her reply would be "Hell No!"

That's marketing genius.

Muddy Water Outfitters in Wichita Falls. Call Mike Lambert 940-781-3129..... He is thick in the cranes right now and we absolutely wacked them last week. They put them right in your face and your are in comfortable heated blinds.

I have hunted with others and him multiple times, there is no one better! Darn good guys too.

You won't be sorry!

Muddy waters did a great job of putting the birds down close. I went with them a month ago. Shot a 7 man limit.
