Maybe we should have a lake naming debate like old times?

My trim has been going on and off, think it's electrical, wiring lose somewhere I think. If I had a go-devil this wouldn't be an issue.

That's all I'm gonna say.

Re: Kinda slow around here... - 03/17/16 04:15 AM

little fishing here and there. Mainly waiting on the river to go back down. Have a couple new impoundments to build, one to spray and do lots of underbrush/tally tree cutting, and the normal planting. Couple pits to sink and normal blinds to set out. Get the rice planted in late may, babysit it and plant the millet in late july-early august. Have plenty to do!! It is pretty slow around here....was thinking about asking everyones opinion on GHG vs G&H!

That was kind of a nasty thing for me to post. Look on the bright side, wiring isn't easy. It could be a corroded switch, a pinched wire, a burned wire, a wire with a hole rubbed in the insulation allowing a ground.

With a volt ohms meter you can start and a 12 v power supply you can begin tracking things down. Isolation is the key. Isolate the motor on the trim and give it 12v power. If it works then maybe it isn't the motor, maybe. With the volt ohm meter you can turn on the continuity, mine and most meters have a an alrm that sounds when continuity is achieved. I would go to the switch first for this test. Check it off and then switch to on with the probes hooked up. It is not a complete positive because of the switch positioning can make contact sometimes but not all the time. If it is negative then that is it. Then check continuity of the wires involved. Again that takes only one negative continuity test result to declare location of a problem. Positive continuity is never a declaration of a problem located.

check the flux capacitor, sounds like a connection either coming loose or a grounding out somewhere

Note for Ag2015: the flux capacitor comment was a joke, Guy and Wal both know this is a joke, so please dont read to much into it

That is so true. I was a walk in hunter for 10 years before I got a boat, and it's a real peace of mind not having to depend on your boat to get you back to your truck. I did a 2 day overnight walkin duck hunt this season, I wanted to check out some of my old walkin honey holes you can't get to by boat. It was so simple packing up not having to mess with a boat, and the excercise you get is great. I got those Cabelas Jean waders with the nice built in lace up hiking boots, they are great for walkin hunts. Just need to make sure you don't step off into deep mud over your head, that would not be good.

Re: Kinda slow around here... - 03/18/16 12:18 PM

That's one reason I like hunting out of my Momarsh with 7.5 hp longtail, so simple and easy, less stuff to go wrong. Although one time I gave it a pull to get her started after a duck hunt, and the pull cord broke, thank god it started first pull.

But on a duck hunt, I will never trim up my mud buddy up out of the water, because if it gets stuck like that you are screwed.

If Mudbuddy is using a Mercury trim motors, as GT and ProDrive do, there is a bleed off screw that will release pressure.

Going down should be the least of your worries...going back up is the problem wink

Boat wiring is not bad at all, it's two wires and you have to have the circuit complete to get power...one positive to one negative. Trace the two wires and figure out where your problem is. I'd bet its a connector or there is something in your wiring loom around where it's rubbed through. I'd also put a piece of rubber hose or something over that spot where it's rubbing...if it rubbed through the wiring loom it will eventually rub through the wire.

Good luck....but you should be able to find it. It's much easier than cleaning a carb grin rofl

You aint had a belt head ache until you disassemble the entire arse end of an airboat and airboat reduction unit with counter rotators to get to a belt a ^&* @#$%^% dirt dauber destroyed. I was wrong on several accounts in this video. The gear weighs way over 100 pounds and the lower shaft does not or should not come off. Everyhting in that video but the engine had to be removed to get to the belt. Oh and before you ask, those are chickens you hear in the background.

He said they lost all power when they turned the point by the dam. (whatever major creek runs north from the dam). I don't spend time on fork so I'm not familiar with all the creek arms. Then they started drifting toward the dam. Started taking water and when it filled up the next batch of big waves did them in. He said 2 boats who they flagged down did not stop and render aid. Game Warden was watching from the dam as they had called in. He was fishing with his adult youngest son and his oldest son who was also fishing the tourny in another boat. They came by just in time. He was out of energy by the time they got him in the boat. Wearing a lj but he was sinking with all the clothes he had on plus he is a nice size dude. Game warden just told him my boat has washed down the dam so I guess its on the south side of dam now.

Insurance is a good thing! Glad your friend is okay.

I like to assume those other boats had extreme focus on navigating the rollers and did not see your friends. I know i almost passed someone one day waving a jacket. My passenger saw them.

Re: Kinda slow around here... - 03/21/16 04:05 PM

It very well could be they thought they were just waving at them. It was very rough out there from what I was told. This morning GW said the boat washed up on a sandy bar. My friend is handling the recovery and has found a local to go "retrieve" (its a duck site ) my boat. It is a 2000 X21 Xpress with a 225 yamaha. Not sure what it was worth sense its 2000 but it was a nice fishing boat for me. I stripped all carpet out a few years ago and had liner sprayed in it. To me it was a crappie/sandy/catfish boat but my bud used it to fish bass tournaments. Its a very nice bass boat if you want to use it that way. (Large deck)

Re: Kinda slow around here... - 03/21/16 05:06 PM

Looks like that boat has 24 inch side and 21 inch transom, is that right? I would like to think that would be enough boat, did the waves come over the sides or transom? Was the bilge pump working? Glad everyone is ok.

Re: Kinda slow around here... - 03/21/16 11:32 PM

He said they lost all power. No bilge, motor, horn, trolling motor...nothing worked. Waves came over transom and sides some.

Can you believe I finally got a round to fixing my trim? It was stuck in a good spot, so I been fishing all summer with it like that. But with teal season approaching, I needed to take action. The pic above, the first pair of connections coming from the trim is on the left, so I started there and that was it. I had full 12 volts coming out of each wire, so I knew that was it. One wire was trimp up, the other was wire down. Can't believe those connections failed after only 2 seasons, so I solder it, works like a champ now...
