Ducks in Northwest Arkansas

Ducks in Northwest Arkansas - 04/01/15 04:23 PM

Hey guys, I am sure I could get some info on this on a different forum, but I wanted to hear from my Texas guys. I am moving up to NW Arkansas this summer. Probably will be living in Fayetteville. What is the duck hunting like up there? Mostly public? Is it similar to DFW area as far as public goes? Will I need a boat?

Do they get a lot of birds? I do not think it is as good as Stuggart or anything.

Thanks for your help

Look at it this way. You are three hours closer to Stuttgart.

I grew up there. It's really hit or miss. Not the best duck hunting area for sure.

This is a great thread because I will be attending the university of Arkansas next year and need to know some info about duck hunting in that part of the state

Truck, gas, binos.. hunt where you use those three to locate them. It's really relatively simple.

kind of hard to do that when you have only been to the state once and do not have a general idea of where to go to even do that. Do we do that at public lakes? Do we walk from door to door asking permission to hunt their property? Just trying to get a general idea of what to do when I get there

From what I've read, there is some decent hunting there, but you've got to drive. You're kind of in between where it's good in eastern Arkansas and parts of eastern Texas. There is an Arkansas duck hunting forum that has some good information.

NW Arkansas is NOT known for its duck hunting. Most of the quality duck hunting is in NE, E, and SE Arkansas. There are a few lakes up that way, but I've never heard of anyone hunting them. If you are looking for good duck hunting, head to the prairie on the NE side around Jonesboro or on the East side toward Stuttgart, Searcy, Des Arc, or south down toward Overflow and Felsenthal NWR. Outside the prairies, you will need a boat, as most of Arkansas's best hunting is in the green timber.

There is plenty of public duck hunting in Arkansas. There are the rivers and lakes of East Arkansas and a couple of NWR in South Arkansas. Bayou Meto is a big public area but its very, very crowded. White and Cache Rivers are good as well. Just get on the Arkansas Game and Fish website...lots of good info there.
