Dove Netting Hunting Method - HELP

Dove Netting Hunting Method - HELP - 08/21/14 08:35 PM

I am thinking of putting up dove netting around the watering hole in the milo field. My thinking is when they get caught in the netting it will take a whole lot less shots to reach my bag limit. Anyone else have any luck with this hunting method?

Remember the ghillie suit, you can be part of the netting and save on shells.

I usually start netting doves on August 25th. If you wait until opening day of gun season, you'll only catch 20 or 30 at a time. Last year my son caught 67 in a row on the first day of youth net season. I got tired of cleaning them so I left 30 or 40 bodies in the net to attract a bunch more birds. Worked like a charm!

roflmao JK of course!

I prefer a pool net....they start flaring on the mojo late in the season, so you need some extra range.

Everyone knows netting don't work worth a darn unless you bait them properly - and bait has to be Indian Corn nuts

Is a billy club legal? Shooting them while they are in a net seems so unethical, and not very sporting.

No, no, no brother man. Clubbing them takes too long. Once the net is full of birds we just spray 'em with Raid.

Our hands are tied. We must shoot them after they are caught in the net to be legal...

TPWD Website "Lawful Hunting Means and Methods: Shotguns, archery equipment, falconry, dogs, artificial decoys and manual or mouth-operated bird calls are lawful. Hunting is permitted in the open or from a blind or other type of concealment or from floating craft or boat provided that all motion resulting from sail or motor has ceased. Sails must be furled and motor turned off before shooting starts. A "sinkbox" (see definition) is unlawful."

Ergo, once they are caught in the net the only legal means is to shoot them... grin

If you roll the net up after they are caught in it, you can easily take out half a dozen at a time if you use an open choke and 3" turkey loads...

Phfffttt... you're trying to trick us!

EVERYONE knows you hunt snipe at night, with a toe sack and a flash light, and you have to call them.
NICE TRY !

Our dove nets are set for opening day. Hopefully we fill the nets during the night so we have a good shoot at first light. grin
