What a morning.

Growing up duck hunters had a certain camaraderie, I guess that's gone. I pull up to the parking area and someone has beaten me out here, no biggy, I did sleep in today. I jump out and he's getting his gear on. I say "good morning, beautiful day to kill ducks." He gives me this, I will kill your soul look. I shrug it off and begin putting on my waders, and he then basically double times down the path. I guess he didn't want me to take his spot. Even though he was there first and I would of let him have his spot no matter what.

And a hint to Mr. sunshine ducks land INTO the wind. Not with it. This poor bugger walked forever and a day, struggle through the mud, and try to build a blind, all to set up with the wind in his face. It's comicle and kinda sad at the same time. Now he's blowing away on his call an hour before legal light. Oh boy what a morning, and the kicker, I forgot my coffee in the truck.

I've dealt with the same thing before. And I had days where the other guy pulled up after me and told us to take our pick and he'd setup accordingly, elsewhere (like it should be done)...

It gets better as the day progresses. 100 yard shots aside. He is now attempting to call in cormorants. And will occasionally take a shot or two at black birds flying overhead. I need a boat. These walk in places are just to much.

Oh forgot to mention, he's dunked himself too. He's gotta be all kinds of wet and cold. Who needs tv when you got this show

Its not gone but I think its a lot less common than it used to be. I feel there are two groups out there. The first group have been brought up duck hunting, learning about the sports past, its traditions and history. The second group are those that learned by watching the numerous videos and TV shows that are available today and they really don't understand the heritage of the sport. Now there are good and bad hunters in both groups but it does seem that the bad out weigh the good on most days.

That's why I make it a point to teach both my boys about the traditions and show them the right way to hunt. Take the time to learn how & when to call, know your species and shoot them over the decoys.

I'm glad I got some good buddies that are teaching me right.... They won't dare intrude on your spot, but you better get ready if you intrude on there's lol......

Oh no, I wouldn't dare go hunt on their public land. Heaven help the fool who actually thinks he can hunt a spot he gets to first.

the nerve of some people

We had some guys the other day so eager to beat us out that they left the door on their brand new dodge 2500 wide open! So we shut it for them and luckily we had asked where they would be hunting so we didn't set up in their area. We finished by 8 and when we got back to the ramp some truck was parked out there checking out their vehicles and spare boat so we went over and left them a nice note and locked their door. Hopefully next time they will check their new truck before worrying about beating is out there.

I wish this forum weren't so critical of other hunters.

Shot ducks today with wind in the face.

I wish other hunters would be a little more courteous and learn a thing or two about etiquette in the field.

Shoot I've showed up three different times and got beat to my spot.... The last time I got there at 3:30, I still had enough respect and left and let them have the spot.... So yea I do think that it's my public land when I got my arse up before everyone else and got there first..... Kinda like last year I was catching crappie under a dock and I guy pulls up right next to me and starts fishing under the same dock, I thought we were gonna have to take it to the shore.... Oh my bad I forgot it's a public lake right ???

Did a walk-in hunt on public this AM in central Arkansas. Normally this spot has very little pressure & I've got a couple of sptsthat I like to hunt.

This AM there were 15 trucks in the parking area. Walking in,I'm seeing water where I shouldnt be seeing water. About thetimeI reach one of my landmarks to turn, out steps another hunter. He says, you can head that way if you want, but I've been here two hours already. Water is way up and crosses the trail about 200 yds ahead. I waded for a bit but it kept getting deeper. I've only seen boats get thru there this AM.

We chatted for a bit and then he offered to let me hunt with him. About 20 min later another fellow comes along and the kid warns him too. The three of us ended up hunting together. Didn't kill anything, but made some new friends. BTW, the kid hunter that stepped out and warned me...17 yr old high schooler.

Where you on or off post? Sounds like a on post story to me. I have been and seen this scenario too man times..……..
