If you are sitting in the blind, and your hair starts to raise up in the air, lighting bolt conming at ya, toss the gun (lighting rod) and hit the deck!!!

Re: Saturday morning storms... - 12/19/13 03:06 PM

we will be out there in it. Ive never hunted in a storm before. I've read things that said its good and bad. of course any lightning would be bad but I guess the rain would keep the birds confused and moving ahead of the front. Might not see decoys as well but definitely looking for shelter.

Guys, if theres lighting please stay at home or in the back of your blinds. Several years ago two guys got struck where I used to hunt and it was a bad deal. Killed both of them and they were in a blind not out in the open. Please be careful if y'all go Saturday.

If that forecast is accurate, I'd wait for the PM hunt.

Holding a shotgun in your hand is like holding a lightning rod. I got caught in a lighting storm about 5 years ago, I didn’t know where to go, they say not to get under a tree and instead go in the middle of a field, heck that seems crazy. One thing I was sure about and that was not to hold my gun, so I put it down walked away from it, I was about 20 minute walk from my truck, so I just sat it out.

After a boating incident several years ago in a bad storm I made a promise to my wife and kids that NO duck is worth dying for. My family is way more important than my hobby. Be safe boys but use your head.

Re: Saturday morning storms... - 12/21/13 12:45 AM

I don't know what you guys are so worried about. I just got off the phone with my guide in Weatherford and he just guaranteed me a group limit of Mallards, Cans, and a banded Pintail. I told him if that happens I will give him an extra 10 bucks, a box of wine and a copy of Jaws and TOmbstone for his beta max. You young guys might not know what beta is. Google it.

Be careful out there, boats ramps should not be too busy today. Should be a fun hunt, about to head out.
Guy just head somewhere away from the storm, if you leave now, you have plenty time.

Okay sounds good, you are one of the few that can get within a 1/2 mile of where I will be in your rig.
After all this rain my birds probably have moved around a little anyway.

Sittin in the Waffle House getting ready to go...

Considering I used to windsurf in area lakes with the wind from the outflow of thunderstorms with a 15' carbon fiber mast sticking over my head...

I ain't skeered. My guardian angel flies at warp speed.

Re: Saturday morning storms... - 12/21/13 10:55 PM

I went out in-between the 2 storms in a walkin public spot, managed to shoot one for Molly then I started hearing thunder from the 2nd storm so I picked-up. I want nothing to do with lighting, 5 minute walk back to my truck.
