Academy shotgun shell choices - 07/25/13 12:53 AM
I was in Academy yesterday and they had 6 pallets of 12 gauge loads out but no 20 gauge. Don't they put flats of 20 out?

Where do you find Rios? The only place I find Rios is at B&S guns in garland. And if I'm correct there about $7 a box

Re: Academy shotgun shell choices - 07/25/13 01:17 PM
They are a new item, so stocking is sketchy. Academy is only stocking load #28 in 12 gauge. You'll still have to go to Cabela's to get load HV32.
If you aren't picky and your birds fly lower the #28 load will kill birds. I prefer the 'wall of lead' approach with the wind and high fliers we deal with. I've considered trying a case of the Texas Loads, but they are pricey at over 90 per case.

Re: Academy shotgun shell choices - 07/26/13 01:49 AM
For some reason they don't have the item Rio #IK - 217170 at Cabelas.
GAUG: 12HV -- 1 1/4 #8
I ordered a case for 69.99 on June 29th and picked them up.
Went on the site to order a few more and no dice.
Those Texas loads are pricey. Nice shells, but pricey.

For those of you in Houston, don't bother going to Carters...They have next to nothing, a 10 box limit and higher prices.

These are about the best you can do for the money and Academy is about as cheap as you are going to find them. They are about $0.50/box higher than last year, maybe they will come down a bit soon.

Academy at bunker hill and I10 in Houston has a bunch of cases of 12 and 20 gauge at $54.90 per case. They have both 7.5 and 8 shot. I got a couple of cases of the 20 gauge to try in my 1100 LT.

It is still a little early for dove stuff to be out. Mid August is the 'due date' for late July is usually spotty.

Re: Academy shotgun shell choices - 07/29/13 11:46 PM
Thanks bjones, I will swing by there tomorrow. I also shoot an 1100 LT20. Mine is a magnum but I bought another barrel for it to shoot the lighter loads.

Re: Academy shotgun shell choices - 07/31/13 03:33 AM
I found a couple of cases of 16 gauge at Cabela's in Allen tonight-$59 per each. If you shoot a 16, you grab'em when you can.
