Voice of experience needed - 01/08/13 09:44 PM

Im hunting solo on a very small pond tomorrow that is surrounded by timber on the North/West/South sides about 2000' from a 50 acre lake to the SE. Always see ducks there and hunted it Monday with a decent return. How do you think the NE 15mph wind and steady rain will affect things? More or less dekes and calling? Mojo/no mojo? Blind is WELL hidden. Thanks for any input or advise.

"very small pond" with ducks already using it... Just don't screw it up.

A dz or so decoys on the upwind side of the pond, very very little calling if at all. No mojo, your 15 mph wind should do everything you need.

Stay hidden.

Nailed it.

Steady rain isn't the best, but you can bet they'll be moving in the breaks.

Your answer has already been posted but as far as rain goes just wait it out longer. It'll be a slower hunt with small groups or may e even singles and pairs trickling in. Takes more time but it's worth the wait

Just looked the pond, it was holding about 12 or so Gadwell and what looked to be a few widgeon (couldnt tell, I was pretty far and binos were fogging). Didn't shoot or spook them. Other larger pond and lake were empty. Thanks for the advise. Honestly I'm extremely stoked about hunting in the rain, I see so little of it and I have great rain gear. Good luck to everyone else in Texas hunting tomorrow, we'll all be in the same boat looks like. I'll give it till noon.

I have a couple tanks like that. One tank I can effectivly hunt once a week, use two to three decoys. I hunt early and make every effort for any duck that sees the setup to not make it out of there.

The other tank: I put out 3-4 decoys and when the birds pile in for the first 30 min I dont shoot. I then scare them out and they come back in 1-2 birds. None that come by make it out. Usually done by 10, I can hunt like that every day. If I choose.

Moral - Know your tank.
