Laguna madre - where to duck hunt - 11/09/12 07:14 PM

I fish in the lower laguna madre from port isabel to port mansfield....i love hunting big game but not very experienced in waterfowl in the bay....it looks just like too much water to me...

Last year i scouted a couple of spots in south bay and in the spoil islands, but i keep wondering if its legal just to go to any shore and start shooting....are there any restrictions??is it legal? There is the laguna atastocsa wildlife refuge and other wildlife management areas around...

You can hunt off any bank as long as you are under the high tide mark, pretty much keep your feet wet and your safe,i was even checked while hunting the bank of the refuge last year. Call the gw to get all the details just to be safe, I hunted all last season right outside Laguna vista last year

Hang on... You can legally hunt the banks of refuges? There isn't a certain distance you have to be from them?

Yes you can, now if your bird falls on the refufe you can get into trouble. Icalled last season to ask about it and any land with tidal influence is state property. The refuge owns the land untill the high water mark, anything under that is public. But like I said give the gw a call to verify. I Hunted the bank of the refuge every day last season
