So,

If you have to buy a stamp for everything you hunt, what is the license for?

GO.

State income enhancement! I get a kick out of being called a fishing license but you can't fish with it without buying stamps.

Aren't you glad that Perry does not raise our taxes?

I guess partly for tracking purposes and I guess if you don't hunt some things it's cheaper to unbundle it.

The sandhill crane stamp/endorsement is free so that is purely for tracking.

For years and years a fishing license was $6.00.
Now the stamps are $6.00, EACH!

...and the fishing was better then, too.

TPW sucks

They charge an additional $5 if you buy directly from them online.

The Sandhill one is free but you can no longer get it when you buy your license, same with Federal Waterfowl, they mail it ot you.
Making it a pain in the but.

i got a kick out of this. went to an academy to get my supercombo and duck stamp. im active duty military so i get my license for free. so the guy starts getting the info and says ok i need to see your orders. i said for what? he said to get your free license, you have to have orders to prove residency. so after showing my military id, texas drivers license, last years hunting license, hunters ed card i took in school, etc.... the guy says sorry. so then i went to wal mart across the road and was in and out in 10 minutes license and duck stamp in hand. thanks academy for supporting your military.

Yeah, they do, but I paid it last year and again yesterday because last year when I went to Wally World no one in the store knew how to operate the license equipment. After 25 minutes, I went home and bought it online.

Ain't it great?

Re: Texas Hunting Licenses.... - 08/16/12 04:21 PM

its always a chore with the pimple face nitwit running the cash register and then walking over to the table with the cute gal that won't put her damn phone down and messes up printing out the license so I have to wait for her to get off twitter/facebook/texting and put 1 min of effort to get it right. Makes me all warm and fuzzy knowing that's our future.

It's their future. Hope it works out for them.

Re: Texas Hunting Licenses.... - 08/17/12 12:35 AM

Question:
This will be my first year buying a hunting license in TX. I am planning on hunting deer, pigs, ducks, turkeys, (basically everything). I have my residency, so do I want to buy a supercombo, and then fed duck stamp, state duck stamp, and what else??

I just dont want to go into a store and rely on them to ring me up for everything. Thanks in advance!

Buy the super combo, federal duck stamp and you are good to go! Unless you want to hunt sandhill then you need an additional sandhill stamp.

Go fishing as well unless you already do.

Really? I just have them print it directly on my lic at the local LEO office every year. Just picked mine up yesterday with no issues.

I've always bought my duck stamps directly from the USPS, not sure why I would trust a state dept, to "ship" a stamp to me in the first place. (stupid system IMHO)

Does a youth license require a federal duck stamp?

No. I was wondering about that too cause I am hunting with my daughters this year. They don't need stamp, endorsements, or hunters ed 9 and above IF hunting with a licensed hunters ed graduate. If they are hunting alone then they need the hunters ed. You can look it up in the book.

Re: Texas Hunting Licenses.... - 08/17/12 03:21 PM

I'm curious. I didn't get the supercombo cause last year I only went bird hunting, not much fishing etc.

I noticed I may want an upland game bird endorsment IF I find turkey on my friends property, can you buy it seperately and they just print it out on another license for you to keep?

youth 16 years of age and up must have a Federal Duck Stamp

Required for all waterfowl hunters 16 years of age or older; available at most U.S. Post Offices, TPWD Law Enforcement offices, Austin headquarters, and all license retail sales locations. The stamp must be signed on its face by the person using it. A valid hunting license, HIP Certification, and a valid Texas Migratory Game Bird Stamp endorsement are also required.

Super Combo includes the state Migratory bird endorsement.
You have to make sure they include the HIP (Harvest Information Program) Certification

If you are hunting public lands you might also need the $48 APH permit

You can either order the Federal Duck stamp or get it at a post office.

You can get a Junior Duck Stamp for $5 if you just want to give them a neat stamp for their license.

The guy at Academy was just doing his job...

I'm a Texas resident in active military, what license is available to me for hunting and/or fishing?
Item 510, Texas Resident Active Duty Military "Super Combo" Hunting and All-Water Fishing Package is available at no cost to Texas residents on active duty in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Reserves, or National or State Guard. Proof of residency for this license is: military service record(s) indicating that the person's home of record is in Texas or that the person's duty station for the six months immediately prior to the time of application is in Texas.

You mean like a Texas drivers license that they scan that shows you home address that is on the same license as last years that was from the same academy? Come on man you really carry around a set of orders? I don't think anyone does.

Re: Texas Hunting Licenses.... - 08/22/12 11:35 PM

I hear ya, I've never asked for orders when printing a license, but if you go by what TP&W wants you have to bring a copy of your orders.

Wow. My brothers have never had a problem. They just had to show military ID and drivers license. Guy may have been following the rules but is a prick in my book. Thank god for old Sam Walton.
