I think my dad and I ended up finishing the morning hunt and our limit for the day in about 30 minutes last year on opening morning. It would have been quicker if he could shoot

The doves are all paired up right now in Central Texas and on the Rolling Plains. Good numbers and most of the area got another rain yesterday. Last year it was all about the water holes, but this year I'm expecting the best hunting to be around the food.

My buddy was bragging to me how awesome his dog was and that he'd been in training for months. First shot he fired Sept 2nd last year and the dog went straight under the truck to hide.

Boneless dove halves marinated in Italian dressing & red wine for abt an hr. Inside is red onion, green onion, sliver of jalapeno and a generous slab of cream cheese all wrapped with a whole piece of applewood bacon! You can do the same thing with some fat gulf shrimp too.

Yeah that was the point there. Dove hunting brings out all the guys that like to think they hunt but in reality they don't except for that once or twice a year. I know a lot of guys that do it and that's fine but guys that don't hunt much tend to be less experienced thus they don't always have the safety stuff, game laws, or common practices down. As for deer hunting...screw that....that's closer to farming than hunting....at least the way most guys do it.

Well don't get me wrong TTID...I want them to get into the sport...more money can go into parks and wildlife Dept as well as conservation as well as the "votes"...but I just don't want to be near them. I've hunted with the same group on opening day for a long time now so at least I don't worry about it then.

I'm ready for it but my shotgun isn't. Need to get it fixed from geese hunt I went on in Lubbock last season and by accident grabbed some 3 inch shells. A few worked but the last one missed up my trusty 1100.

Good lord there are doves everywhere on my property. The bird feeder by the window had _10_ doves in it, and it's a 24" diameter. I've never seen so many before. This regular rain is going to make it a good season this year I think.

Drove by a lot of fields outside Olney, Woodson and Murrey yesterday and did not see ant sunflowers so to speak of. Opening weekend may be the only good day till October. Not much food around.

Shaping up to be a hunt to remember, my son is home from serving in the Marines to make our first dove hunt together in four years, my best friend and his daughter(leaving for Navy boot camp a week after opener) and two fellow officers are going to hunt sun,mon, tues at my lease. Will be a good time!

Out scouting again this morning, set up the voodoo on the tank to watch the birds and they won't stop swooping in on it....father in law also put out a dead cedar in the field and they're all over it.....9 days huh? Wish it were today!!

I've already checked, double checked, and probably will triple check all my gear before opener. This is a special season for me, I get to take my fiance, and my buddies fiance (Hes deployed to afghanistan) on their first ever dove hunt. Well first time hunting period for both of them. I dont care if I dont shot at all, as long as they shoot and are smiling my season will be great.

Don't know if you are joking in this pic, but it is illegal to hunt migratory birds like dove near your feeder. That could be considered "baiting" and be a BIG ticket from the GW.

Headed to the lease this evening. Truck is packed and ready to head to Coryell county. Opening day of dove season should be a state holiday as well as the opening day of deer season. Be shooting @ 0636 in the morning hopefully. 1/2 hour before sunrise. Sun rises @ 0706.
