......Huh?

Bands are for hanging on your lanyard.

Remove from bird, stomp trash, hang on lanyard. Next.

Mounting that thing is a waste time as is reporting said band.

It's a traveling decoy we're doing on another forum. I was the first to get it. I think I started it off pretty good!

Thanks for the words fellas.

It was a bitter sweet ending to the great trip. I didn't find the band until we were laying the birds out for the pic, but I know exactly which bird it was and that I shot it. I remember looking at how bad I destroyed it and how bloody it was. The band was covered in blood when I saw it.

It's not getting mounted(meat is already in the freezer). I did save that storm wigeon for a possible mount though.

Re: Unbelievable Start! - 11/09/11 01:32 PM

Mounting it is up to you, the memory will stay with you no matter what. I can picture each one of my hunts that I shot a banded bird on in my head. I only have three in 21 years of duckhunting and I hunt 25-30 days of the season if that tells you how special they are. I have shot one in Lousiana during teal season, one in Texas, and a huge mallard drake in northern Oklahoma on an awesome hunt we limited out on Mallards and Canada's on. The Mallard was at least 8 years old and banded in Saskachtawon, Canada.

Re: Unbelievable Start! - 11/09/11 02:14 PM

Don't worry about the bird not being mounted. I have 8 bands now and 7 are in a paper match box in my drawer and the other was flattened out, put in a frame along with the certificate and the Fed stamp for that year and hangs on a wall along with several others at a duck camphouse in Idaho( where the green head was shot) a friend owns.

This is season 32 for me and rest assured those bands didn't come easy cuz ain't a one was shot anywhere remotely close to centex. Bands come easier when you live/hunt in a mallard rich region and you hunt often. Unfortunately I don't live in a mallard rich region and have to travel to get my green. Have had several clients, when I used to guide, shoot a banded bird. Couple of woodrows, a pintail and a gadwall. I know several fellers that have hunted longer than I that have never shot or ever seen a banded bird. I don't think guys that have a lanyard full are any better of a hunter than those who haven't shot a banded bird. Shooting a band is just a stroke of good luck and being on the lucky side of the blind when the shot is called. Seen a few coin flips as well when 2 claim they shot it. Bands don't define a hunters abilities or knowledge, IMO. Just shows they hunt in a mallard/greater rich area, they hunt alot and shoot alot of green and greaters.

"4 days in a row" That is what I should have been doing instead of deer hunting. Looks like you got it going on. I would have been tempted to call in sick and make it day 5. Way to go!
