Never too windy for the birds or the right setup. There does come a point where making shots gets pretty dang hard. I would say thats somewhere around 30mph.

My buddy has a cigarette lighter that he claims will work in up to an 80 mph wind.

If he can't get it to light, we are out of there.

It was very windy Friday (about 25 mph from the North) and we came up 3 birds short of a 3 man limit. The wind was around 5 mph on Saturday and we got a 3 man limit pretty easily.

High winds keep a lot of birds down and not flying. I will hunt windy days anyway but they are the least productive for me.

Wednesday of this week we were well on our way to a limit in windy conditions until the wind really got to howling. It shut the ducks down. Completely stopped flying unless they were pushed out of their hiding spots by boaters or other traffic. For me, anything over 25 mph is starting to get too windy.

I'd say 20 mph is the limit. One time I took 3 shots at some pintails with their feet down in my face with a 24 mph wind, and the wind was so strong it blew my shot away before it even got to the birds.....totally not my fault.

A couple of weeks ago it was blowing about 25 with gusts easily 30+. I had 4 ppl in the boat and we were getting soaked on the way back to the ramp. Never again will I do that! Esp. considering my past experience with wind, water, and a boat. 20mph is the max for me!

If I'm walking in it doesn't matter especially when the wind is bringing a northern front.

Wind also gets them up off the big water, so it can help those hunting smaller/private stuff.

When the wind white caps the lake, I head to the flooded woods or back ponds. If I feel it is to dangerous for my boat, I hunt the back waters or ponds. In the wind, that's what the ducks are looking for. A nice calm place to rest their feet and wings.

i think 10mph is prefect. anything over 20 is just way to much for my boat. heck over about 15-18mph my decoys start water walking real bad.
