Two Hogs To Start Off The New Year

Two Hogs To Start Off The New Year - 01/04/20 05:13 PM

Working with Custom Reloads of Dallas' 6.5 Grendel Nosler Varmageddon to see what it will do on hogs. These are hogs #3 and 4 with the round. It looks like the round works fine in the sense that it is working as designed. It is opening quickly, fragmenting, and creating a large wound channel. The downside is that it is not getting a lot of penetration. Depending on where and how you shoot, this may or may not be a good thing. Looks like the round should reach the vitals just fine, but maybe not if it hits heavy bone. It does not look like it is going to overpenetrate adult hogs with a decent torso shot. If it does, I would be inclined to believe it will be as tiny fragments that aren't apt to be a significant risk to things very far down range.

Yeah, I don't think I'd have looked too hard at the mess caused by the second shot on hog #1 either.

Good hunt, good analysis!

Hey preston629, I recall that night. You were there with your buddy and had been deer hunting earlier in the evening. That night was the only night I have ever seen a game warden while hunting in Montague County. He is gone now and has been replaced by somebody else, BTW.
