What would you do...

What would you do... - 06/07/17 06:50 PM

Went hunting Friday night, drove back to the Mound late, got home around 1AM on Saturday. Short story, my helmet and monocular disappeared some time after getting back to my truck at the lease and the next morning. I am so pissed. mad

When I get back late like that, I typically bring my rifle/pistol/helmet inside and get the rest of my crap out the next day. It had to have disappeared either at a Whataburger stop in Graham or out the truck at my house during the night/early AM. It seems unlikely, as I would have locked at it at both stops, but can't prove it. I have no other scenario I believe to be likely. I could have left it on the bedcover by the rear door, but I have to believe I would have seen it after walking from the rear of the truck to get back in after closing/locking the ranch gate upon leaving. I better not see a hog running around with a helmet and monocular on...

I can't swear on stack of bibles it was stolen out of the truck, but I have no other answer. Nor can I state specifically where it was stolen (home or Whataburger).

Given the above, do I have any standing to file an insurance claim or do I just have to call it a lesson and give MD money for a new one? smile

I would file it and see what the insurer comes back with in way of paying, declining, or asking for further documentation. And you aren't that far away, but over here on this side of the Lake we've had a RASH of car burglaries of late. The good news, PD arrested 3 this week believed to be partially responsible for the crime wave. Maybe they got to FM?

Might want to go back and see if it's on the ground where you hunt. If you can't find it, call your insurance agent (not the insurance company!) He can look up your policy and advise you if a claim is worth pursuing.

If the equipment is not covered, your deductible is too high, etc., etc., he will advise you not to file a claim. Insurance companies tend to drop coverage and/or jack up rates when customers file multiple or unnecessary claims.

Good luck! By the way, who is MD?

I can sympathize...two weeks ago I forgot to lock my truck in front of my house. Went out the next morning to find binoculars, camera,a mess of SD cards,a knife, a bunch of ammo, etc.. missing. Probably no way for me to ever see that stuff again.

First thing I thought was I left it in my Pioneer, ranch owner where I hunt checked it and where I parked.

The deductible for my homeowners is a lot more than my truck ($100) I believe. I think the homeowners is replacement value, while the comp on the truck would probably be actual loss? If I'm correct, I'd be better off doing the homeowners for sure.

I guess I'll give my agent a call on Monday.

Damn that was a nice helmet!
What's the possibility of it being on top of the truck and falling off on the way to the gate? If it fell off on the road its gone for sure.
Maybe you can look at it as a chance to get something new that you've always wanted instead of what you had? 5 years from now you won't even think about it.
After seeing yours and watching some thermal videos I want one but they're $$$$$$$$

I called Aaron and had him check for it on the ground where I parked and up to the gate. I have to believe I would have seen it walking back to the truck after closing the gate if I had left it there. I don't see my self setting it there as I walked up to the truck with it on (light) after putting the Pioneer in the barn. Put it in the back cab and changed my boots.

It sure wasn't a IR Patrol, but I couldn't have been happier with it, I'm still bummed... frown

Waiting on the new Q14 that's coming out.

Wow this would make me sick to my stomach. Sorry to hear that. So just to be clear if someone took it at one of your stops they didn't grab the guns aswell? The thermal is only thing gone? Feel like if it were a thief they would have cleaned you out.

That's why I don't think it happened at the Whataburger as my rifle was back there (seats folded down in a MegaCab) with the helmet. Rifle and Pistol came in with me when I got home. I had other misc. stuff back there too, but the helmet/monocular clearly would have stood out.

Gotcha, that makes sense if the rifle and pistol went in with you at home then the helmet/monocular would have stood out to a thief.
