Let's do it again!
Starting January 1st I would like to have a running count of all hogs killed in 2013. Pics are not a must for proof, this count is strictly on the honor system. You can indicated how the hogs were taken, rifle, bow, knife, trap etc. Please continue to list each following number, so the next person can list his number. Please keep the chit chat to a min. I think this will be fun and we be real curious what the final numbers might be.

Here's my first two of year. Palo Pinto county, 270. First is a big boar 350-400. Second is a sow, same day, around 175.

Supper nice hunt in December! But I think we should credit them to 2012.
So, 98 plus the 10 I shot throughout the week brings the count to 108...

Hey check out db hunting ranch. Tons of hogs and exotics , and its super cheap, only 100 for a hot and 50 after that. Its in bertram or liberty hill, I cant remember
So, $100 for the first hog and $50 for each hog after that?

If you are talking to me, the majority of them are 0 -80 lbs. Obvioulsy. But there are some decent ones, no giant 450 pounders... but i have seen probably 10 200+ the do have nice elk ram audad sika axis and fallow though.

I killed a sow (125lbs) outside of Quanah TX on Saturday so that makes 277.
My nephew shot 2 last night with his new AR. Stephens County. Would post the pic but he started prepping them for coyote bait, then took a pic.

Reply to pass thru from 02/04/13 date/ comment on 350# plus boar. I don't know how to scan and load pictures for proof. I just know two of us couldn't drag him up on trailer, I had to use front end loader on tractor. I've trapped and killed some pretty good monsters the last couple of years.

#323. My first pig, second time out hunting, and the first animal I've ever taken. I think I'm hooked on this whole hunting thing. Had a great time and have enough meat to keep me well stocked on breakfast sausage for a while. Definitely going back out to add to the count soon.

Nine so far with my buddy taking five during the same hunts. I've been out twice in the past week which is the first I've gone this year. Headed out again Thursday evening. We hunt on a 24,000 (roughly) acre ranch and usually come across a group of hogs within an hour or so.
Two of the better ones... Got one from about 25 yards behind the ear with a Black Hills 50gr TSX at a full run from a moving truck in the field.
The second was a jaw shot. He ran about 30 yards to a small tree and stopped, which put him roughly 50 yards away. As soon as he turned a bit I took a second shot and put it through his left eyeball.

I've had great results with 70gr TSX. Took a 275 boar at just over 200 yards last year. He made it no more than five feet and dropped. Hit him behind the ear.
I have a 16" SCAR H (7.62x51) but it's a bit bulky to use from the truck packed with gear and a couple other guys. So, I have a 9" 300blk upper coming this week that I'll be hunting with soon, hopefully using 110gr TTSX.
I've had such great results with 5.56 and TSX on all size hogs from piglets up to 300lbs. But, I wanted something with equal or better performance froma. Smaller package. I have a 6.8 8" upper, but only two mags and can't find more right now. Plus, I don't have a spare bolt, so for my needs (hunting is a pretty small part of my firearms use) a short 300blk upper just made more sense.
I hope to post back soon with results. After a half dozen or so hogs, I'll do a comparison of 5.56, 300 and 308 and how they worked for me.

Keep up the good work everyone. The best hogs are the dead ones. Double benefits, 1st. for the persons wanting the meat, 2nd. the elimination of the damage for the landowner. I understand the hunting and sport enthusiasm, I enjoy hunting and killing them, but from a landowners viewpoint. I would be much happier if one NEVER set a hoof on my little piece of God's green earth again in my lifetime.

1179 is a boar I took just after 7 am this morning. Had 4 inch cutters and tushes on him. Looked for all the world like the logo on Boar's Head Products. My trusty Sako Forester in .308 Win., loaded with a mild handload topped by a 150 grain Sierra Gameking hit him like a bolt of lightning from 100yds out. He never even wiggled.

Like an Idiot I left my camera at home and my phone back at camp, but 1181 was taken with a PSE Stinger 3G. Perfect shot and he didn't run more than 20 yards. And I'm Pretty sure the arrow is all the way in him. No exit wound and the entry wound was pretty far back going towards the lungs.

1196 was killed about daybreak this morning with my trusty old Sako in .308 win .
Could see them working under a feeder before that time, but not enough light for a 120 yd. shot. Nicest little sow you'd ever want to take the hams and backstraps out of. We estimated 140 lbs give or take. That could be a little light.
Actually, I thought I had a twofer, but the other managed to crawl off into the brush without a blood trail, so no confirmed kill credit, but he/she is dead too!

Put a set of ribs and the back bone on the smoker for 4 hours. Turned out awesome. Packaged the meat for later. 25 lbs. of fat for deer sausage.

Starting January 1st I would like to have a running count of all hogs killed in 2013. Pics are not a must for proof, this count is strictly on the honor system. You can indicated how the hogs were taken, rifle, bow, knife, trap etc. Please continue to list each following number, so the next person can list his number. Please keep the chit chat to a min. I think this will be fun and we be real curious what the final numbers might be.

That's a nice hog! Love to see more women involved in hunting, by the way; I've been hunting for 30+ years and I see more women out there than I ever have before. Not sure if this is a Texas-only thing, but it's great for the long-term future of our sport/passion.

1620 and 1621. These are two I've fed out since last February. The darker one weighed 135 and the red one weighed 175. The red one had 2" of fat on her back. The darker one (male) never filled out.
