Favorite lottery hunts that you have won? - 06/07/18 05:25 PM

Which hunts would you consider your favorite and why. I'd say Matador was my favorite because of how rugged it is.

Rita Blanca Pronghorn was my favorite. It was just plain cool hunting speed goats right here in Texas.

There are no deer at Matador. Nothing but hoot owls and polecats. The only thing anyone comes home with is an empty cooler and chiggers on your privates.

Chapparal WMA 12yrs ago...my unc, Cuz and myself got drawn after 12yrs of trying. My unc had never shot a deer over 130 in his life. He took a 161. 13pt and unc passed away 3mo later. When he took that deer I had never seen him so excited. I’ll never forget. Great memories.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my antlerless hunts at Gene Howe. I have always enjoyed the challenge of finding deer in the wide open prairie with not a tree in sight.

Also drew the exotic hunt at Palo Duro Canyon and while it was neat to get a barbary, I was less than enthused with the way they treat the hunt. Basically you are required to hunt with another hunter, whether you know them or not. They have since changed the application process to requiring two or more individuals on an application.

I hunting alot of public land hunts in Texas. You right some of them have goofy rules.

I have been "drawn" only once; at Devil's River SNA. I thoroughly enjoyed my hunt, but did not shoot anything. Passed on several nice bucks(See pics), but not what I was looking for. I am still applying for that one every year. Hope to go again.
Got picked on a "standby" earlier this year at Elephant Mtn. Scored a nice buck there on a very tough hunt. Had a blast and will continue to put in for that hunt.

Have never won one of the super neat Lottery Hunts like ya'll are showing pics of...won a few back in the pre Digital Days but nothing ever since except a Doe Hunt at Boggy Creek ...that was recinded as the fancy dan 'puter over allowed the number of Permits for the Harvest Allocation.

Hunts I've been satisfied with in seeing interesting stuff include Walter Buck WMA, that is no longer offered, Guad Rvr SP a couple times, Lake Mineral Well's, the Javy Hunt at Choke Canyon is all that come to mind, despite having double digit so called "Loyalty Points" in more than a few categories. Oh Well it is fun to at least "imagine" winning something I guess..might have better luck with scratch offs or simialr and win enough $$'s to BUY a hunt....and the BH can't whine about me watching the action of the Brass Pole.

A few years back, 2007, I got drawn for a gator hunt at JD Murphy WMA.

Got me a BIG Gator. Took me 4 hours to butcher.

But it was good eatin’.

Did the lottery last year for the first time and was selected for Matador for the whitetail bow hunt; read the same about no deer at Matador, but saw at least one every day. However, I did leave with an empty cooler as I could not get one closer than 100yds and had a clean miss on a pig. Would love to hunt the same spot with a rifle for either whitetail or mule deer! As someone else said, very rugged and not an easy hunt at all. I hope to get selected for one of the others mentioned here for future hunts!

Matador for me. A great place to get out and really hunt. No stands or feeders.
