Caddo Mills Grasslands - 11/12/14 05:46 PM

Just joined THF but have been reading all of your posts for a long time and really appreciate the info.

I couldn't find anything here about Caddo Mills under the public hunting so I am setting up a new thread.

I am planning on taking a buddy and our sons out to Caddo Mills camping and scouting for hogs this weekend and had a couple questions:
Anybody been out there lately? What units and did you have any luck?
Any hot spots vs cold spots we should be aware of?

I didn't know Caddo Mills had a public hunting area. Where is it?

Not Caddo Mills, but the Caddo NWR or whatever it is called. Close to Wolfe City. About 2000 acres. I hunt it when not hog or deer hunting. Good land for sniping squirrels and jumping rabbits. Never saw deer or hogs, saw hog sign. Spotted with ponds. Land is broken up into several plots.

I didn't know about that place, Piper. That's good information. I wonder if the OP was talking about Caddo National Grasslands in Fannin County?

I understand the area north of Honey Grove has a lot of deer and hogs. I know the area around Ladonia has some but it gets a lot of hunting pressure this time of year.

They both get a ton of pressure during regular season on the weekends.

Finally got a chance to go out and there is a lot of pressure. Scouted a couple miles at unit 19 and a couple more at unit 11. There is some potential around the little ponds here and there for some early morning hunting but didn't see a single critter in the afternoon and evening. We will see what the morning brings but right now it is time to finish a couple cold ones.

Good luck. Caddo is tough hunting but pretty country.
