Drawn for Richland Creek WMA GDE Nov 10 - Nov 14 - 10/06/14 02:21 AM

Anyone else get drawn? This is my first draw since moving here from Nebraska in 2007. Richland Creek looks very promising. After a lot of research I'm up in arms about what to take and where to stay, etc. I think I'll take both my rifle and bow along with my ground blind and climber. I'm planning on just camping out primitive style and wondered if any other folks plan on doing the same or know of cheap alternatives to pitching a tent. Only 5 weeks away!

There's a couple of motels(1 at least)where 287 crosses the lake. You might want to book a room in advance though, the bass fisherman use that motel a lot as well.Hunted RC a lot before it went to the draw system, some nice bucks in them woods!

I'll be on that hunt. Though I only live 55 min from there and will be making the drive probably.

Thanks. I only live north of dallas but it's still a couple hours so I can't make that drive every day, especially if I want to get any sleep and still get in my stand before light. What type of blind/stand do you plan on using? I'm now leaning toward a couple hang ons to set up Monday afternoon so I don't have to worry about climbing every day or finding a tree to climb. Hang ons allow more options I think.

FYI to others drawn for Richland Creek deer... I just booked one of the 9 cabins at Fisherman's Point right along the other side of the dam from the south RC compartment for $59/night. I think they only had 4 or 5 stil available. Pretty nice little one room cabin with electricity, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Plus, it's basically onsite for getting to your stand in the morning. There is also a bait shop and cafe onsite. My favorite part is after getting back from a long day in the woods you can throw out a line from the shore or dock and maybe catch some supper! If anyone else is staying around maybe we can get together and tell lies around the fire. See y'all there!

Thanks. I heard they can be terrible, but hopefully the bugs will be gone come mid November.

If the cabins at RC are booked, Fairfield is just a short drive away for motels. Sam's restaurant has a great buffet with mile high pie for dessert. Gilberto's for good TexMex. Most everything is just off I45.

I used to hunt Richland WMA for man y years long before they closed it and turned it into the rip off draw system...lot of deer their and feral hogs! Be glad you getting in it in dry year...used to be wet all over at times. Do take thermacell or/and Rhynoskin! THe Mosquitoes are thick and size of bats....had me so tormented one year I almost jumped! Congratz on a "good" draw hunt up !

That is a little of an exaggeration. I've never seen one there that was much larger than the top of a beer can. The ticks on the other hand, I thought a mouse was biting my leg!

BTW, the two deer pictured above, those were the last ones left. They are all out of deer now.
