strike fire II

strike fire II - 01/16/24 01:38 AM

Got a Smith & Wesson M&P AR 15. I put a sig Saur Romeo5 red dot on it. seems to work pretty good. My 6 year old grand son shot it a few times and did good for his first ever rifle shooting.

I got a Vortex Strikefire II as part of the rebate on the gun, but it is a lower 1/3 co witness.

Question is... with the higher sight picture of the strike fire, for my grandson, should I leave the Sig Saur red dot(true co witness) or go with the Vortex that is higher. The AR 15 has fold down sights.

thanx,

I will say don’t over think it. Use the one you want to put on it

Not trying to overthink it. Mostly looking to see if folks have had experience with the strikefire and kids shooting wit it, as it sits higher than the Sig.

guess I will just mount it up and let him try it next time he's over and see.

The most important things with any sight height is what it comfortable for the shooter and produces the best natural point of aim.

If you shoulder a rifle and have instant clear sight picture, your sight height is correct.

If you shoulder a rifle and then have to adjust your cheek weld up or down, your sight height is not correct.

J.G. I agree. My grandson is 6 and when he shot the gun for the first time with the low mount sig, it appeared he had to lower his head down to see through it. I'll mount the other and see how he does.

I can adjust easier than he can. So, I'd like to get it set up more for him than me.
