New! Pulsar Thermion 2 XL50 LRF 1024 Resolution Scope - 10/25/23 01:15 PM

Hey fellas I figured some of y'all might be interested to see the big news from Pulsar today. They are introducing the Thermion 2 XL50 LRF thermal rifle scope with a 1024x768 12 micron thermal sensor. The scope has all the normal Pulsar features, laser range finder, ballistic app capabilities and comes in with a 1.75x base magnification. The price is an impressive $7,999.

Below is an interview Hans and I have announcing this optic with Jeff Murray Executive VP at Pulsar USA. We will have a full field review of this unit tomorrow (Thursday 10/26) on The Late Night Vision Show. This is a really exciting advancement to see HD 1024 resolution in a scope and the price not be insane. At $7,999 (while still expensive) it's only $2,000 above the price of the Thermion 2 XP50/XG50 LRF scopes.

If anyone is interested in this scope and has any questions, feel free to give us a call, we have them in stock and ready to ship today. Hans, Ashley and myself all have a ton of time hunting behind this scope and we're happy to answer questions.

For that price it better be as good or better than a Reap IR.

In the old days when I had many living uncles and my grandfather in my life, we had many penny-ante poker games at family gatherings on holidays. It may have been penny-ante, but we played hard because getting your brother-in-law's or nephew's money was what made it fun. If we had a good hand we'd sandbag our bets so that no one would fold and to try to keep them betting on a losing hand. The technique was recognized and referred to as "suction."

What he said about being in for $4k making it easier to accept being in for $6k is absolutely true. When you've got a $2300 optic stepping up to a $3400 scope doesn't seem so steep.

If you're already in for $8k, what's $2k more?? That's just how this game works.

LOL.

I would buy the new RIX 640 thermal with 2.8 magnification for $3800(no LRF) unless you believe this Pulsar is worth twice the money.

"Worth twice the money" is a value statement or judgment call that only the buyer can really make. There is no way to objectively say that it is worth twice the money. It depends on your want and needs. For the people doing video, the difference will definitely matter. For people wanting to ID farther, it will definitely matter. For people wanting to aim more precisely at greater distances, it will matter.

For me, I would say the improvement of image quality would matter.

With that said, either way I would consider waiting to buy a new scope. We now have 3 HD or better rifle thermals, 2 new this year. The price on the original has dropped a couple of times. Now we are seeing HD scopes under 10K and they will help drive down. And being a long time Trijicon owner, I would definitely check out the Pulsar before considering buying a Trijicon with their current and largely outdated offerings.
