Clip on diffused laser for night vision...

Talk with a guy the other day and he mentioned a "diffused laser" attachment (just can clip on to an existing scope) that would basically allow you to run a standard rifle scope as a night vision rig. He did not know the manufacturer and I can not find anything like that in my research. I find items that mount in front of a regular scope and scope you can use as both day and night scopes....

Anyone have a clue as to what he was describing. From how it was described, it was a diffused laser with depending on the model would illuminate out to 300 yards with a beefier model out to 500 yards. Sound familiar to anyone?

The one I have is the ND3subzero. When I first got it, I thought it was the biggest waste of money. Turns out it was the scope. Had it on an NcStar 6x42; now it's on a Luepold 3-9x40 Mark AR. The ND that I have is still not to the point I would suggest you run out and buy it though. I got the subzero because they claim it works better under freezing temps, it works you just have to wait on it for a minute or two until it warms up. I noticed they have changed their claim to now say under 40 degrees. Also their claim of three hundred yards is bogus. I have yet to positively ID anything past 175. You can find eye shine from here to eternity with it but can't make out what it is. All in all I wouldn't buy another and the one I have hardly gets used anymore. If you were closer I'd let you borrow it before you spent your money on one.

PS: mine is the original ND3subzero, not the x50. But going off claims they made in the past that I have disproven, I wouldn't spend $600 on it.

Yeah, sounds like an ND3 or similar. They're useful for night hunting but they're about as similar to night vision as a spot light with a green lens.

Better off with a true NV scope, no add on.

As alluded to already, there is night vision and there is hunting at night. The two are not necessarily the same. The benefits of the ND3 are its longer range and focused beam. The claims are that it does not bother the wildlife. Those claims are bogus. The better claim is that it sometimes doesn't bother wildlife. Then again, white light sometimes doesn't bother wildlife. Red sometimes doesn't bother wildlife.

The only illuminator that I can say usually doesn't bother wildlife is an actual IR illuminator typically used with various forms of NV for hunting that is in the 900 nm range or lower via LED or laser and they sometimes bother wildlife who see the glow at the source (no visible light is projected on the ground).

I have used the ND3. I was surprised how difficult it could be to see some animals with it. The green light is not a good light for bringing out contrast differences.

Yes forgot to mention that too. It seems if a yote or fox is coming straight at you they are bothered by the brightness of the light; as they constantly duck their head or close their eyes. But if they are cutting across you they don't seem to be bothered by it.

If you want to try one i will sell you one pretty cheap. Had to have it when they first came out, have not been varmint hunting once.

I had one.. while it does what it claims it has a rather limited FOV sweeping a field is point less I suppose it might be good for a shooting lane but unless you have an idea where the animals are fast acquisition will be an issue.
